Resident Evil Requiem

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

TL;DR - Probably the first contender for Game of the Year. Personally, this is on my top 5 best RE games.

I never thought the RE engine would never peak after MH Wilds, but maaaaaaaaaan... this game is gorgeous. From lighting, shadows, HAIR!, and even performance (getting a respectable average of 50-70 in max settings on a 2k monitor with no sudden drops), everything is elevated.

The story is a banger, shifting perspectives with both playable characters and having no "dead air" in between. They have a few surprises here and there and a lot of nostalgic elements at some point in the campaign. I picked the bad ending first, thinking, at the time, it was the good ending and hoo boy it was SHOCKING! The good ending is even better with a standard RE last boss and 3 cinematics.

The combat is challenging on both characters in classic mode. This time, unlike the recent RE4 remake, you get rewarded if you hoard. It felt so great using all the saved items used against the final boss. Crafting is so much better and balanced just right. Leon's parry is so badass that in one point in the game it felt like i was fighting an easy souls-like boss.

Special mention: Grace's VA is friggin great! On point! It really felt like she was scared shtless.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Impressive atmospheric lighting and fog. Creative use of draw distance on areas inside buildings. Art style over graphics fidelity. Great music to set the mood. Memorable creature designs. A cyclical story with Ryukishi07's signature (if you're familiar with his work, you'll notice it when starting ng+). Simple but action oriented combat. Psychological horror paired with an ample dose of confusion. And a world full of readable lore. Definitely an excellent take on Silent Hill.
