My Ubisoft account was hacked and the game is tied to it. I have provided Ubisoft with my activation key, my purchase history and other information and they refuse to give me access to the game because I don't have access to the email the hacker used as a replacement for my email when he stole my account.

About two-three weeks ago, a hacker gained access to my ubisoft account. The changed the email and password, so I can no longer login into this account. Unfortunately, Ubisoft made the decision to use their launcher as a layer of DRM, so my game cannot run from Steam without access to this ubisoft account. I contacted Ubisoft support, provided proof of my identity, my purchase history and steam ID, and they effectively told me that because I cannot access the email tied to the account, they cannot verify that I own the game and promptly shut down all communications. I have tried this multiple times with multiple games and I get the same answer everytime. Until Ubisoft disables their DRM, I'm leaving all their games a negative review. I have lost access to tons of games that I purchased legitimately because of this. Literally pirating the game is better than giving this company your money.

This review is not about the quality of the game but rather the price for what you get. What you receive for $50 USD is a port of a game that released 14 years ago and it's DLC expansion. While it is nice to have this game freed from console limitations, it is quite literally just a port of the PS3/X360 version with FSR and DLSS added in, which shouldn't be necessary since it's so old and adding those into a game is so easy that modders do it on release day for some games. You still get muddy textures, weird audio, NPCs getting stuck on terrain during story missions, etc.

On the performance end, everything seems fine. I'm using a 3060 so I'd expect it to run well, which it did. The Steam Deck seemed to struggle with some higher settings, even with FSR on Ultra Performance.

This is a great game and deserves a proper remaster and maybe the modding community will really transform this game into the remaster it deserves. Please wait to pick this up until it's on sale for $30 which is a way more reasonable price. If you bought this like I did, I implore you (heh) to refund and wait until the price drops.

In terms of value and meaningful gameplay changes, this expansion surpasses Waking the Tiger. This is a must buy for anyone looking to play HoI4 from now on. While some adjustments will certainly be needed as the meta was changed with the Barbarossa update that coincided with the release of this expansion, the core of what is offered has a really solid foundation.

Paradox didn't give me my achievement

Builds upon the core mechanics of the original game in a way that makes them feel renewed. Enemies are challenging in different ways and require different skills to defeat. The game's art direction and level design is superb. A great game in every way!
