Prepare For Unforseen Consequences...

For those of you who play Total War, and those of you who don’t but should, I’ve compiled a list of my favorites as a loose guide on what myself and some friends (who used to be well-known among the Total War gaming community) think are most worth purchasing, in order of most worthwhile first.

Napoleon: Total War

Brief Review: This is probably my personal favorite in terms of multiplayer because I prefer combat where volleys are exchanged and charges (infantry or cavalry) must be used more strategically. Additionally, you must frequently use buildings tactically during the course of the battle. And finally, the artillery is much better than on Empire.

Total War: Rome II

Brief Review: Now in terms of single-player campaign this is my favorite because the campaign map is rather complex and requires more engagement than its predecessors. However, I have not played this in multiplayer so I can’t speak to that, but like I said above, I prefer the presence of firearms in a battle instead of a melee mosh pit.

Total War: Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai

Brief Review: Great campaign, but the multiplayer is absolutely terrible as you’re forced to earn units and unit abilities by acquiring points through battle, but the base units are straight-up s**t. In other words, you’re forced to lose until you rank up enough to get decent units. Again, the single-player campaign is pretty good as it keeps you engaged but it’s not at as good as Rome II. This is also the closest we’ve got to a Victorian era Total War which is a plus, though it’s only in Japan which is a turn-off.

Empire: Total War

Brief Review: This game is another great single-player game but very few people still play multiplayer. There are more nations available in this game than in Napoleon which makes it better in that respect and the nations units are more balanced than in Napoleon where half of the nations are s**t in multiplayer.

Total War: Attila

Brief Review: As the newest Total War I’m certain this game is phenomenal and lacked the terrible roll-out of its predecessor Rome II. Seeing as I haven’t played it though, I can’t speak to just how good it is.

So yeah, in terms of multiplayer, Napoleon is my favorite whereas Rome II is best for singleplayer, but it all depends on your personal tastes. I like firearms and artillery and battlefield tactics as opposed to melee mosh pits.
