Lancer

Lancer is a private/whitelisted Half-Life 2 Roleplay server hosted in Garry’s Mod and powered by our in-house Crowlite roleplaying framework.

Born out of frustration and a call to action back in 2018, Lancer is a community-driven project that aims to create the ideal roleplaying experience in the Half-Life 2 universe. With a focus on player freedom, immersive storytelling, and a commitment to quality. Having existed for over seven whole years, Lancer has been a labor of love for its founders and the community that has grown around it. We have put hundreds of man-hours into this project, and we are dedicated to making it the best it can be.

We aim and hope not to exactly revolutionize the Half-Life 2 Roleplay scene, but rather learn from our predecessor's mistakes and take steps to avoid them while reinforcing what they did right. We aim to study and understand why certain things work, and why other things do not. That, coupled with our experimental additions & changes along with our players' feedback, we strive to create the ideal Half-Life 2 Roleplay server that everybody can enjoy.

Hey everyone!
I am very happy to announce the second iteration of Lancer!

I was motivated to have another go at Lancer due to the lack of quality serious roleplay servers currently available to the small (and actively diminishing) Half-Life 2 Roleplay Community. Funnily enough, this is the same motivator as the one I had when creating my first Half-Life 2 Roleplay Server, Dissociative Roleplay, and the first iteration of Lancer. With the decay of big players such as Nebulous and the gradual shift of others towards a more Semi-Serious / RPG scene, Serious RP players are left with the choice of either abandoning the community for good or adapting to the new and evolving Semi-Serious scene.

We will be abandoning the port to Helix, and will instead be sticking with Clockwork. While Clockwork is considerably more outdated, harder to work with, and less performant than other Frameworks, it is a classic. It gives Half-Life 2 Roleplay the vibe that it requires to immerse somebody into the world. Of course, I could simply reskin Helix to look like Clockwork, but the biggest motivator for sticking with Clockwork is that it is done. There are a couple of changes that we wish to make, but the server is mostly ready, development-wise. This single fact allows us to focus our resources on improving our roleplay systems and delivering a product in a more timely manner, using systems that we know work.
