I am very happy to announce the second iteration of Lancer!

I was motivated to have another go at Lancer due to the lack of quality serious roleplay servers currently available to the small (and actively diminishing) Half-Life 2 Roleplay Community. Funnily enough, this is the same motivator as the one I had when creating my first Half-Life 2 Roleplay Server, Dissociative Roleplay, and the first iteration of Lancer. With the decay of big players such as Nebulous and the gradual shift of others towards a more Semi-Serious / RPG scene, Serious RP players are left with the choice of either abandoning the community for good or adapting to the new and evolving Semi-Serious scene.

We will be abandoning the port to Helix, and will instead be sticking with Clockwork. While Clockwork is considerably more outdated, harder to work with, and less performant than other Frameworks, it is a classic. It gives Half-Life 2 Roleplay the vibe that it requires to immerse somebody into the world. Of course, I could simply reskin Helix to look like Clockwork, but the biggest motivator for sticking with Clockwork is that it is done. There are a couple of changes that we wish to make, but the server is mostly ready, development-wise. This single fact allows us to focus our resources on improving our roleplay systems and delivering a product in a more timely manner, using systems that we know work.

Hello everyone.

Seeing how we still have a little ways ahead in regards to the port of our server to Helix as well as the addition of new roleplay and gameplay features, we have seen fit to re-purpose the main server. Given that it is not being frequented by anyone and is currently, plainly said, a waste of server funds, it will be changed into a temporary event server that we will use until our porting to Helix has concluded. This will allow us to keep you guys entertained while we undergo development once again, as well as allow us to 'beta-test' our plugins and systems inside a controlled environment before the big re-release. This new event server will be the host for all kinds of events, some being storylines, others being 'one-off' events, all created and managed mainly by the Event Team alone. Do note however that, in an effort to remove possible restrictions when it comes to event possibilities, many if not all of the events that will take place will NOT be following our server's lore and canon. They could take place in the future, in the past, in an alternate location with alternate groups, and so on and so forth.

That being said, the Event Team has prepared the first event, the details of which can be viewed in its own thread, here[forums.lancer-networks.com].

We are not done yet

Hey everyone! We are finally doing the long-awaited Helix-Port of Lancer.

As much as I would personally like to stay on Clockwork, the hard truth is that if we plan on going anywhere with Lancer in 2021, we need to be exposed to a larger audience; such an audience being prominent around Helix servers these days.

The port will bring upon us several advantages, namely a larger potential playerbase, increased framerates in-game, additional gameplay features & new possibilities, and more.
At the time of making this announcement, we are at a 50% port status. However, in addition to all our Clockwork plugins being ported over, we also plan to add brand new features to improve both the roleplay, and the gameplay experience in the server. You can view the live development progress over at the #helix-changelog channel in our discord server[discord.gg].

Furthermore, with this port, we will be consulting with all of the Faction Leaders and revisit many of the server's factions in order to ensure that they still fit our needs and meet our expectations. We will be using what we've learned throughout Lancer's Clockwork era to implement any changes that may be deemed necessary to improve aforementioned factions.

As for the server's characters, as much as I would love to port over all of them to the new framework, that is unfortunately not possible. There is no 'converter' of sorts, and manually porting 1221 characters (yes, I counted) by hand is not an option that I am willing to take at this time. For that reason, only characters that are currently a member of a faction will be ported over. However, you are free to recreate your character and make an item refund request in the forums. In addition, if you would like for me to port over a character of yours who is not inside a faction, simply let me know through steam or discord.

The #sneak-peeks channel over at our discord server[discord.gg] will be used to showcase the progress of the port, along with our weekly Development Blogs[news.lancer-networks.com] which will be rebooted. Furthermore, a new Trello Board[trello.com] has been created where you can track the overall progress of the port. As for the main server, it will remain open until the port is completed, at which point it will be switched over to helix and the transfer will begin.
