I love this game. It just hits for me. I had already played once before on PS4 and decided to buy the deluxe edition here on Steam to support and also to have an excuse to play again.

It’s hard to exactly describe it - it’s a little like Zelda, but with more Souls-ish style combat, but it also has a tiny bit of Pikmin DNA in there too. Very tiny bit.

Stylistically it’s a really interesting mix. People immediately draw comparisons to Pixar which I get, but this game also has some really cool enemy designs that you would definitely not find in a Pixar movie. Also, although the game generally has a good vibes type of atmosphere, the reality is that the backdrop and story of the game are quite sad and dark. This isn’t really a spoiler so I’ll just say it. Basically everyone you meet in this game is already dead, either due to famine or calamity or a mix of both. And your job here is to help them move on to the afterlife. This creates a surprisingly melancholy and introspective experience throughout.

On the surface you might assume this is a cutesy game that will probably be a breeze. And while it is sometimes cutesy, it actually packs quite a punch. It isn’t the hardest game ever but it’ll definitely push back a little on you at some points. The combat generally is really good, I could quibble about some things but it’s overall very fluid and feels really good to use.

Lastly I’ll shout out the banger soundtrack, it’s really unique and some of the battle music in particular goes really hard.

It’s a huge recommendation from me, just a good ass video game. It’s not perfect but it just kinda rocks so hard that the little things don’t matter.
