Unique experience playing the origin of my favorite series. It is as it says, "entering survival horror".

Very classic. In fact, so classic that pretty much everything in the game is awkward. The control is awkward, so is the item management, ally AI, even need to walk around a circle trying to pick up an item. In 90s, people may like the such control system.

Great game. The peak of QTE and the herald of its demise.

Now that is put away, I am happy to share my feels about the game.

The game is a true delight in the eyes of a Resident Evil fan. The atmosphere is great, with top-notch music throughout the journey, as per usual. The design stays true to the original game, both enemies and surroundings. Even better, most enemies have much more diverse attack patterns, making the experience more challenging yet more fun. The controls are very smooth for most parts, except for running. I had to switch to push-to-run, otherwise Leon is very clumsy in narrow space. The story is alright.

What I feel a bit of a pity, would include:
1. The small content cuts compared to the original. U3 is cut, sadly. But that’s okay. Big soldier is cut, through replaced by brute, I imagine. Any transformation of the bosses is deliberately hidden. I understand it takes more work to add the transformation animations in real-time rendering cut scenes but that just loses a bit of touch in a horror game.
2. The role of Saddler is much weaker now. In the original game, Saddler showed up through out the game, setting up his ultimate villain role. But comparably, Saddler only first met Leon on the island, making his role much less significant.
3. What are those dlc tickets!? Their existence completely ruined my impression of the game. I am a diehard fan of the series so I never really hesitated to pre-order any resident evil game, and I would think my investment help the devs to make better games. But such horrible dlcs, posing as money grabbers even with vague descriptions, make me want to throw up when I think of the company’s face when they are counting the money they make for an otherwise magnificent game.

I give this game 8/10, or 9.5/10 without the stupid dlcs.
