(Don't let my playtime deceive you, I was watching/taking notes with a friend playing and have 80+ hours spent in this world - and all puzzles solved! I bought my own copy just for this review and to support Dogubomb because wow, they more than deserve it.)

This game is my GOTY. There, that's out of the way. I am one of those for whom this game was made. I didn't realize it going in, but this game has consumed weeks of my brainpower and I've enjoyed nearly every second. BUY THIS GAME.

Although some will say that the RNG is a problem... I'd argue that it isn't - BUT only when you're paying attention and accepting that nearly everything you see will eventually fit somewhere. There was only one point where my friend and I got frustrated and *almost* called it... but I'm really glad this game couldn't let us go and we didn't. And no, the initial premise (reach room 46) is less than a fraction of the full game.

My only true complaint with the whole thing, instead, is that the last ending... feels anticlimactic after all you have to do to get there. All prior "endings" have cutscenes and fanfare and you have to utilize every skill learned in the game to press through but then... it's just done. It felt like we hadn't finished and that we'd missed something, but we scoured and then searched online and nope, apparently we did get everything. There are also a few things that really feel like they are going to go somewhere and maybe haven't been added yet? Or they're just deception? I'm not sure. I do have a few questions.

What a ride to get there, though. I would recommend playing this with a friend for (at least) two sets of eyes and brains, and someone to bounce ideas off of. Everything matters, and there are puzzles on puzzles in a dizzying series of layers. The intricacy with which this game was created is utterly mind boggling. Not to mention that it's gorgeous, lush, and the sound/music are beautifully atmospheric. The world building is a labor of love that shows in every pixel and puzzle. It engages every sense that it can.

I can't recommend it enough.

Geneforge is pretty good, if you're ready for sub-Baldur's Gate graphics!
