i wasn't really sure what to expect with Luto, and went in pretty blind (except for the trailer). Man am i blown away. I really wasn't expecting the narrative angle, and very routinely i would have my expectations completely flipped, in a really pleasant way. i'm trying not to spoil anything, but just know that everything that might seem out of place or like a weird choice ends up having itself totally justified in surprising ways.

this game is worth the price. broken bird games has just joined the very short list of devs whose games i'll buy sight unseen.

updating for 2025 steam goty awards: i've nominated this for outstanding visual style, most innovative gameplay and outstanding story rich game award. i still mean everything i said above. i love this game. its a real diamond in the rough, and i'd still recommend everyone play it.

finally beat the forest @ 6.5 hours!

this game rules, i've been playing it on the deck and its awesome to pick up and play for a quick break or to spend an hour grinding during a podcast. deckbuilding/roguelite rpg autobattler with surprising depth, and a big variety of builds. and its tough! but you'll always be able to tell why you died, so you can improve on the next run (if you get lucky enough with gear).

it's great, and it's worth getting right now even in early access. you'll get more than your money's worth out of it.

it said to kill the princess, so i did. and i got a crayon drawing ending after 5 minutes when the splash screen at the start said there aren't any "early" endings.

there's a character named "rakan" who is supposed to be some average white american guy and is clearly voiced by a european trying to do an american accent. that kinda tells you all you need to know about the level of script writing. really wish i hadn't spent money on this.
