So honestly, this is my first real review on Steam, and I’m writing it because I truly believe this game is a masterpiece. After years of stagnation, it finally pushes the boundaries of gaming again. We gamers have been very lenient with Western studios releasing unpolished games with little content. Where Winds Meet raises the bar back to where it should be. I’ll try to summarize:

The Good

Single-player experience on par with the best games ever made - KCD2, Cyberpunk, and The Witcher, just to name few while also being an online game.

Beautiful graphics and sound design.

Huge world with an insane amount of interactions and polished content with almost no bugs.

Combat system is simple to learn but deep, rewarding skill, timing, and strategy. Button-mashing gets punished; parries and dodges feel tight and responsive.

Large variety of bosses, all with different fighting styles.

Kaufeng – one of the best cities ever made in a game, with incredible scale and interactions.

Completely F2P, and no pay-to-win elements.

Tons of collectibles, customization options, outfits, and accessories, most of which you can earn without paying.

Strong amount of co-op and online content at launch.

Unmatched release cadence – new locations, bosses, equipment, and level caps every few days instead of waiting months.

Group content from 5–30 players available from day one.

Fully playable solo or with a party/guild.

First real use of AI NPC implementation, even if it still has a few issues.

The Bad

One of the worst UIs I’ve ever experienced.

Optimization needs work – boss fights run well, but cities (especially Kaufeng) can melt even a 5090 with low FPS.

Multiplayer content could be better (it’s in the pipeline) and can be laggy at times.

The game expects you to know Wuxia. If you’re unfamiliar with the genre, some questlines may feel confusing—like playing a Star Wars game without knowing what Star Wars is.

Can feel grindy for some players.

Final Thoughts

This is a dream come true for gamers. If you can, please support this game. It’s free and truly deserves it.

Early Access Review
Does not feel like Early Access at all. Really high quality production for such a small studio. Recommend!
