Damn it is good. Wish this would drop in 2008, as proper DLC. Sure it may not be as refined as Black Mesa, but it is as good as it gets for small teams. Besides, everything that counts is great: storytelling, gameplay, dialogues, even visuals. Commends to them for pushing through and delivering.

I would be overjoyed if someone would mod this mod (heh) with overhauled Xen assets of Black Mesa (i totally understand why authors didn't do that themselves, and it is okay, really), that will definitely get me to play this once again.

P.S.: Boy was it chilly to see flashback to the opening scene from previous mod

Under the guise of a modern action with rpg elements you'll receive a failed attempt at boomer-shooter with unlockable-only weapon system and most unsatisfying movement in gaming history.

Jumping that can't even take your character over the ladder ledge. Sprinting you say? Nice option, but this corp' merc cant run for 30 meters, sprint-jumping is out of his league too, taking too much "boomer" into the shooter for my liking.

Shooting is random at best, useless at most - creators push you to use environmental objects, seemingly because creating satisfying weapons was above their capabilities. Exploding enemies sometimes avoid all bullets and happily hurl themselves into you, after you've unloaded quarter of your ammo into them without hitting once.

Enemies clearly telegraph their attacks, but movement stiffness requires you to put attention to it. No clear feedback of you dealing damage, unfortunately, sometimes parts fall off of them, but that didn't tell me anything useful.

"RPG"-progression is slow as heck, you'll have to dump a lot of nanites into useless crap before acquiring something interesting, and what little you can get in the beginning won't hook you at all.

Story? Meh, it has some, but my attention died after I dumped around 6 nanites on upgrades and didn't get anything good in return. And the story is not bad, sans it's bland as distilled water.

Graphics and style? Graphics are OK, nothing breathtaking, enemies look tad bit out of place. Overall, I expected more from the promo materials and opening sequence.

Sound design is mediocre, music is okay, but sfx don't match the world to my liking.

All in all, below-mediocre shooter plagued with "modern" elements which make it worse. Better go check out Ion Fury, or Dusk, or any other cool stuff instead.

Hidden from library.

Слегка обидно что не учтены сотни часов, проведённых в ней ещё в дремучие нулевые, когда отец притащил её на жирной по тем временам 128-мегабайтной флешке, ну да ладно. Годы уже не те, чтобы тратить сотни часов в бессюжетной игрушке, пытаясь перебить рекорд какого-то Васи Пупкина с Джекхаммером, молясь на бонусы fireshot и перки к перезарядке обреза. Но даже сейчас это почти настолько же расслабляюще-медитативный процесс, как какие-нибудь bulet-hell'ы, за вычетом фрустрации, или казуалки а ля три-в-ряд, за вычетом полной деградациии.

Всё ещё есть возможность посостязаться с очередным Васей Пупкиным за строчку в лидербордах, всё ещё есть каждый классический режим, и изменения ничуть не портят оригинальную концепцию, подтягивая геймплей и графику к современным стандартам вариативности и вовлечения. А для пуристов всегда есть оригинальная версия. (:

Эта игра, а вернее, визуальная новелла, не несёт какой-то большой нагрузки. В ней нет откровений и глубоких мыслей. Но она несёт в себе теплоту истории и душевных переживаний, прекрасно переданных через приятнейшую музыку и выверенную пиксельную анимацию. "The Bird Story" стоит каждой секунды, потраченной на её "чтение".

Впервые пожалел, что сператил игоря. С фоллачом такого не было, так что это что-то да значит. Великолепный дизайн, запоминающаяся рисовка и история, приятный голос рассказчика и лучший саундтрек evar. Такие дела.
