Soulmask is a game of great concepts, style, and ideas. Yet, also a game of broken functions, lack of direction, and aimless tutorials.

Not to mention, their use of AI music, that the company responsbile for the music, is now copyright claiming.

As for the game, I really wanted to like it. Yet, the AI followers are braindead. I spent more time trying to get them to do basic functions, than build my base. Pathfinding is a joke. Adding placemats on a boat is a poor excuse to replace an AI pathfinding for the NPC just following you on the boat. The tutorial starts strong but then over time forgets to go into detail about functions, so you spend time lost on steps. That's just some of the weird mechanical choices of this game.

At the same time, if they can get rid of the AI music, improve NPC AI, and just reorganize their function, there is a lot to like here. The scope and ambition here is true. Yet, it's just so messy in many ways to recommend.

The story and theme feels very Max Payne. In a good way. It's not a twitch shooter. It's slow, calculating, and focused. The start is slow but it's just to set the mood and pacing expectations. If you're into tactical shooters, this will be up your alley. The AI could use some tweaking but unless your a tactical stealth vet, it's fine.

Honestly, enjoyed myself and will certainly keep playing. Pretty solid first effort from an indie studio. Great job guys!

Amazing follow-up to the original. You don't have to play the original to enjoy Silksong but I highly suggest doing so. A lot of hints in the story, that connects it to the first game. Overall, this should be a must-buy for anyone interested in this style of game.

I really like the artstyle and the ease of learning new systems. It's become my "chill-out" game as of late.

One of the best action games I've played in years. I beat the game on Xbox and jumped to PC. This game has more personality in its first 20 minutes than some games have in it's totality. This COULD have been an amazing fan-favorite franchise. Sadly, Microsoft ended that. Yet, if you haven't tried it, you seriously need to give it a shot.

Simple, addictive, and honestly well thought out for a game where you essentially just move your character around.
