It works suprinsingly well with the latest proton-GE. I know many have problems with UHD graphics, that's a ram issue (which fortunately I don't have). The UHD option is not (and probably can't be) optmized (remember that AOE2 is all 2D). Just stick with the normal configuration and you will be fine. Glad to play this game again after many years. I suck anyway.

Very, very good, but I am disappointed that the game has the quality of an “Early Access” title. Many features are honestly still in an early beta stage, and some even feel like alpha.

Don’t get me wrong: I think the core engine and mechanics are there. The foundations for becoming a great strategy game are already in place. I would have bought it at full price even if it were clearly labeled as “Early Access.”

My problem is that Paradox needs to be honest about this state of the game, and it currently isn’t.

If this were Early Access, I wouldn’t complain about effectively being a beta tester. But since the game has been fully released, I just want to play—not wait for Paradox to finish cooking it or deal with a constant stream of patches and hotfixes that rebalance the game, making it pointless to learn how to play right now.

It seems to be an awesome game and I always appreciate the effort Paradox prints on its games. I rate the game negative due to the horrible performance issues. I have a very decent rig and even in FHD and low settings the game really struggles to achieve 30 FPS (I play other paradox games in 2K such as CK3 with not problem). I am looking forward to change the review to positive once the performance issues are solved.

I wanted to give this game an opportunity, it has years in my library. Probably I got it for few bucks or something. But here's my review: 30min in the game and I am stucked, googled and there are bugs that make some missions unplayble under certain conditions, like game difficulty etc. So yeah, probably it is playable somehow, but I don't have time to look up how to overcome bugs in each mission. SEGA is disgusting, it seems they have a worse culture here than the one in total war. They just don't care about bugs.

Moreover, after some minutes in the first mission, the audio is gone hahaha. OMG.

Maybe the first version of this game was not that good and maybe was broken. But now it's a game that deserves your attention, specially if you like EUIV and CK3. It is really good and is accurate at a very good extent. It combines elements of CK3 and EUIV in a very clever way, giving rise to a unique emergent mechanics. Since you have to do diplomacy with states and characters, well, you can interact with them both! It is amazing to manage roman politics and senate, while at the same time you are fighting wars abroad and see how Cartage is becoming a menace. And also you becoming a menace to smaller states. Besides, the map is simply amazing, is the best one that paradox has made. It is waaaaaay better than CK3 map, more dynamic, detaled and simply beautiful. It would be nice to have more patches and content from devs. Buy the game, it is worth its entire price.

Just one advice: creating levies can be done in two ways: raising the status of conquered cultures or just waiting for assimilation. Just have this in mind, was the only annoying thing I had problems with so far. But once you understand it, well, it becomes intuitive and accurate.

I don't know I am doing yet. But understand and love other paradox strategy games. GIve it a chance, it is simpler than it looks like.
