"Real Dubstep" only consists of the UK 2step garage dub reggae fusion scene and the early 2000s London scene. What is known by "Dubstep" today is nothing but Techno music with questionable real dubstep influence. When people try to argue that artists like Modestep are not real dubstep, while saying that Bassnectar is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake dubstep as Skrillex (plus the pretentiousness). Real dubstep sounds DEEP, EMOTIONAL and somewhat DARK. Fake dubstep is cringe, unnecessarily aggressive and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music.
Some examples of REAL DUBSTEP are Horsepower Production, Burial, Ternion Sound (the only real dubstep artist from US), Egoless.
Some examples of FAKE DUBSTEP are Virtual Riot, Zomboy and Skrillex, all my homies hate Skrillex
