Looks nicer than the original but lacking in every other department. Combat does not play as well and this is compounded by some of the level tweaks where pathing and visual clarity have been mangled. Soundtrack is the worst part - replacing the original & its ambient/jungle sample pack DNA with melodramatic piano and stock music heavy metal is a great sin.

Some cool visual and audio design but unfortunately just really boring with a runtime padded out by infinite corridors (to great avail) and a nonlinear narrative being used to try and tart up a very whatever story (to no avail).

By design and intention it rides heavily on the coat tails of its predecessor so it is a very good game. Leaving a positive review for this alone would be disingenuous because all of the Oblivion that I/we know and love was created nearly two decades ago. Very little is new under the hood.

As a distinct product this remaster is really rough around the edges. It looks pretty but runs like absolute crap. I don't doubt a lot of love was poured into it but when you pay £50 for a product it's not a very far-fetched idea that one would expect it to operate as advertised.

Were it not for the nostalgia factor and Oblivion being a very good game this release would likely be getting absolutely lambasted and deservedly so - see people leaving positive reviews (for the core game) and then making excuses for the performance because of said nostalgia. I'd do the same were I not sick to the back teeth of the constant half-arsed products in the video game world.

I have exceeded the refund window but thankfully am in a position where the £$ is not an issue but for anyone else I would suggest locating a copy of the game which has "fell off the back of a truck" because if money is tight then it's best it doesn't go into the pocket of Todd Howard, Pete Hines and the other ghouls at Bethesda resting on their laurels (read: the hard work of developers 20 years ago).

An under-seasoned lentil soup of a game. Sometimes you get a pubic hair between your teeth or lump of lentil that has burned to and then been dislodged from the bottom of the pot but as a whole it is mostly palatable. The main issue is there is just too much of it.

I am 36.7 hours in to my bowl of soup and it has become a complete slog, a journey of ascetic discipline. My belly is swollen and my soul is weary.

We must stop making videogames so mind-numbingly long, especially if they are just not that good. The only people that care about the MONEY:PLAYTIME ratio are the tragically frugal. These people do not appreciate life's pleasures so can we please stop catering to them.
