I cannot really recommend this game in good faith.

Putting aside my complete bias against cutscenes and forced story in general, the monster quantity, as well as variety in this game is very lacking. A lot of the times, I felt the new monsters they were introducing were very samey— even returning monsters lacked a lot of the oomph they normally had.

While, yes, a large number of weapons feel better than they have before, the problem ultimately comes down to the point that most monsters just, don't do anything. I get they're trying to push the new offset and clash mechanics, but this leaves monsters feeling very telegraphed and very slow, while at the same time not being a threat in the slightest if somehow you were to get hit by these cinematic attacks.

Couple that with the fact that the game's story is crammed down your throat in the entirety of Low Rank, and that leaves the entire endgame system feeling completely lacking, along with almost the entirety of High Rank.
This in turn really highlights the fact that Wilds has the least monsters of any game in the series so far.

The nods to MH4U are cute, but ultimately meaningless at the end of the day.
