Clack, clack, clack.

There’s a pause in the fingers. Meticulous eyes watch the message, wonder, doubt things then. Undo. Backspace is pressed, held.

Clack, clack, clack.

More words, perhaps too wordy? Doubt again comes and fades away as some confidence makes it leave. Are they concise? Meticulous eyes watch again. Tedious, tedious, tedious. Backspace is pressed, rids the message.

“‘Hi’…” they murmur the first part. “No, ‘Hello, I’m…’ Too formal…”

They start typing again, listening, hearing the music of keyboard and watching letters fold and form words. Furrowed brows, bitter emotions, nothing to say, they suppose. Nothing.

They resume again. In the dark, lost in the screenlight, lost in the dull of a blinking cursor. Paused, waiting for words. None come.

“Do you…”

Do you what?

“Mm… ‘Hey, would…’ I just...” blinking cursor. Blink, blink.

They look at the sentence, imagine the words to fill everything after. All of it pointless. Worrisome, inconsiderate, out of the blue.

Delete, delete, delete…

“‘Can we talk?’”

Saved. Then Deleted.
