I picked this game up ages ago on sale, and only now got around to it. My biggest criticism of this game is that a lot of the mechanics really don't gel well together. It goes beyond playing a fifteen year old game and expecting a modern experience: The combat is sluggish, inventory management is clunky and mind-numbing, it feels BAD to move around the world with the controls, and while the writing and characters are really interesting, the game inadvertently trains you NOT to talk to them all that often, because getting new dialouge options is completely locked behind their approval. The gift giving mechanic isn't balanced or paced properly, so giving a gift feels more like you're skipping over the spending time with a character rather than the intended way the devs wanted you to interact with that system. It means when you DO check on a character, they'll go from not having anything to say, to suddenly spilling their guts in five seconds flat. Its really janky, and ultimately takes away from the ability to feel attached to a character since their personal stories aren't given time to breathe. Moreover, a lot of their personal quests or stories are usually just solved by going to a place and talking to a person, and then its just...over. No stakes, no tension, no drama. The characters are arguably the best part of this game, but it just feels like DAO was designed backwards: With all the attention to detail put at the end of the game. It wasn't until I reached the last third of the story where I genuinely felt curious enough about the world to endure the slog that is every other mechanic in this game. If you want to know what happens here, I'd recomend reading a wiki or finding video compilations. The mechanics of this game just have not aged well enough to keep the attentions of a modern audience, and I fear that in an industry where story and lore rich games are the norm, the spare leaflets and "impressions of a feeling of a character" that you have to endure until the last quarter of the game are not going to feel satisfying for narative driven players.

This game has a story that is incredible at building intrigue, and the visuals are absolutely stellar. The playtime was longer than I anticipated, but not so long that it felt dragged out. The puzzles are clever, the soundtrack is phenomenal, and overall the feeling of climbing, scratching mewing and yes, even tripping people, is delightfully satisfying. Highly recommend giving this a shot if you love games with rich story and a low barrier to entry.

I started playing Monster Hunter when it got ported to the Nintendo Switch, and I got hooked really fast. This game is a classic Monster Hunter experience, but its way more user friendly. The tutorials are short, sweet, and not super invasive, which I appreciate. I've even been able to talk some friends into playing because of how accessible this game is. If you think killing a beautiful dragon to make a hat for your cat buddy sounds fun, or if you just want to dress up an adorably small pig in silly costumes, then this is the game for you!

A great game: they story is intriguing, and the controls feel very natural and smooth. It's got a kind of charm that's hard to explain, but if I had to describe it in one word it would be "original" it's fun to play, challenging in all the right ways, and is overall a rewarding experience.
