Amazing game, but Bandai Namco. This game is almost 10 years old and Bandai Namco decided to stop lowering the price during sales. Used to go on sale for -75% on average for YEARS, now it's on sale for -50%, and off sale it's still full price, which is insane! While it definitely would be worth it like 5 years ago (and honestly in terms of quality, it definitely is worth it if you have the extra money to just burn), my gripe is how slimy the publisher is with the pricing of this game. I urge you to not buy it at full price, let alone this pitiful discount.

I highly recommend the game itself, but I don't agree with the publisher's greed. On top of all this, they barely even maintain the game, all patches have passed, and at one blip in time there was a online security flaw and they had to shut off the servers (prior to Elden Ring, they're back up now) and they still want full price (or -50% take it or leave it)

Used to be $15USD during sales from like late 2017-2021. Now it's $30USD during sales as of 2025, 9 years after release. GREEDY.

Truly the game of the year, every year. Bless you developers for making such a fun game.

There is no point in playing PSO2:NGS.

It's an "MMO" where even a peak hours there's probably a total of 1-2 people you see in 2-3 hours of free roaming, and they tend to ignore you anyways just like you'll eventually do to them. Everyone instead if AFK in hub areas, so getting into this game for the "Multiplayer" aspect will only find it in matchmaking for certain events and activities.

-Basically, a husk of an MMO with more AFK than playing.

So how does it play, what if you wanted to play it as a singleplayer game? Well, it gets repetitive really quickly. Pick any playstyle and by the end you'll be mindlessly mashing buttons with a system that has the depth of a kiddie pool. It's like the devs are scared of players having fun with their builds, instead you conform to it because there's barely any variation in your choices. At least the movement is a little entertaining and fun at times, but that's about the only time I had my brain on, it's when I was exploring and not playing the main gameplay loop of beat up enemies while sometimes dodging, casting the same spells, and pressing buttons to win.

-Basically, Early Game is End Game, what you see is what you get.

You can play dress up in this game. The choices you get are good (if you didn't pick a robot) and you generally have a lot of freedom. That's really good! So good that I see gooners and their eye sore porn addict characters. It's funny at first, but gets old fast. I made a really cool robot girl that actually took a lot of time, and I felt like I stood out like a sore thumb in the wave of big-breasted hookers, questionable characters, and the occasional fetish material. Why is this game so rampant with this?

Is the story worth it? Honestly, I couldn't tell you since I skipped it.
-Basically, I skipped the boring story after 2 hours. No joke. There is nothing of value even when I didn't skip a cutscene late game, I wish I had. You might even skip this section when skimming over the review, just like how you'll eventually skip the cutscenes too!

So would I recommend this? No, go play the original PSO2 instead. I'm not kidding, this was the biggest waste of my time and I needed some time to rethink my life choices. I haven't played this game in a bit but I assure you it's guaranteed to be the same even after a year of not playing, trust me. I waited! There won't be content coming to the game unless it's drip-fed additions that all play the same as always, repetitive and boring. Even locations in the game get old fast, and I love exploring! That's such a shame for the potential these spaces had, but there's nothing there except stupid collectable chests! I looked!!

TL;DR: Please either play PSO2 original (which has lots more depth and content, but I don't want this review to be TOO long) or any other singleplayer game, this MMO really does lack content like everyone says unfortunately, I don't see any reason to stick with this when many other games offer a unique and engaging experience that can stick with you for a long time, while this game slides away like grease, becoming a forgotten memory and a lifetime regret of wasted time that's forever linked to your profile. I lost nearly 66 hours of my life, please don't make the same mistake I did.

waste of money, buy Forsaken instead this adds nothing major.
