If there's one thing I can say about the game, it's that you can sink a lot of hours into it. The modding community breathes new life into the game as well, and it's simply amazing what they can do with this almost decade-old title.

Originally released as a flash game, MARDEK is a turn-based RPG that started off as an affectionate parody of JRPGs and fantasy tropes, but over each successive entry added a great deal of depth to the core concept, easily becoming a game one can sink dozens of hours into. Though some of the jokes are dated, the core game is still solid, and offers more content than most other pixel RPGs. Perhaps the most ambitious flash RPG ever made, it still holds up well after all these years and certainly won't run into the complaint of being too short of feature-bare.

An interesting core mechanic paired with a story told through FMVs. Though it can get cheesy at times, it's a fairly engaging murder-mystery that I'm willing to give points to for originality, especially in the non-linear way the player watches the story unfold that almost gives it ARG-like elements.

Good wholesome fun, great playerbase, and enraging RNG. What more can you ask for?

EDIT: Returning to this game after a year, it's amazing how much content Fruitbat Factory have managed to cram into a simple board game! Dozens of characters, some voiced, hundreds of outfits and poses, pets, progression systems, etc. The core gameplay is still great, and it's heartening to see the developers care so much about continuing to expand and improve on their flagship title.

Love this game, and has one of the richest, most imaginative fantasy settings out there. If anyone is a fan of adventure games or interactive stories in the vein of Telltale Games, you should check this game out.
