Casual. Maybe a bit easy

This is not just a game. It's an investment.
The updates are still great after all these years. Community is strong and getting stronger.
There's nothing like it out there. It's as simple as that.

I can't recommend it yet.
There are game breaking bugs and the UI needs overhaul (especially on PC).
A lot of time gets wasted in different storage menus and refining. The gameplay loop is not the most fun and it really suffers from procedural generation boringness. BUT I feel it has good bones and when quality of life update rolls around, the bugs are fixed and game gets workshop integration it could really shine.
Check back in after 2-3 major updates or get it for around 20€.

Pros:
Visually looks great. The Xen feels really alien.
Art style is spot on.
Plays great with few visual bugs (The plug wires on xen dissapeared)

Cons:
At times the platforming feels dragged out
Performance took quite a hit when at xen

If this is your first frostpunk game then you might like it. If you have played the first one then consider it as more of a spinoff. It's a bit unpolished at some parts and and I would consider it as version 0.9. I played through the story and I sometimes needed to google about how to do things game wanted me to do.

1 hour in: Game runs great on linux. The music is great but the game feels like fancy e-reader with constant stops in the gameplay. Also it's more confusing and broad and you don't feel the connection with citizens like in the first game. You are now a city manager and you have about as much care for them as the real world city managers care for people behind numbers. You are only stopped in expansion when some resource is gone. Still hopeful tho.

2 hour in: I'm starting to get the feel for the game and it's not that bad but has a bit steeper learning curve i guess. I still miss the small trails the settlers left in the snow. Right now stuff is kind of placed on the snow and doesn't feel as planted. Also not fan of the LED strips showing roads.

9 hours in: The UI is more about looks and less about function. I'm having issues where I can repair a worn down district but can't repair when its at dangerous levels and I don't know why because the button is just missing. Also I have some people around the wasteland and I haven't found a way to call them back even tho the resources are depleted.

17 hours in: The game got better but still not as good as the first game. I will go through with another playthrough but the amount of googeling on how to do some stuff should be lower. I'll see what the updates bring but now I just can't bring myself to giving this game a thumbs up.

It's 8/10 if you haven't played the originals. It's 6.5/10 if you have.
The story is still great and they have made the game easier for modern audiences (newbies).
I feel that the originals had more open-world car game feel but this is more like semi-linear shooter. It's not bad but it's different and I'm a bit mixed on that. I'm just glad they didn't f this up like most modern remakes and it's amazing that they even did this good considering Hangar 13s other game is some tennis sports game or something. I wouldn't dare to pre-order Mafia: The Old Country tho even if I was one of those people. The development side is sad and only updates since launch seem to be only for the 2K Launcher bloatware

If you like POE or Diablo then give this game a try.
Good updates (for now at least) and the community is not toxic yet.
