Resident Evil 1’i gerçekten çok sevdiğimi hatırlıyorum.

Açıkçası Resident Evil 2 Remake’in izlediği modernizasyon rotasından son derece memnunum.

I can’t remember the last time a new AAA IP gave me such a fresh gameplay feeling. I partly attribute people labeling this game as an “Xbox 360 era game” to this very reason — because since the early 2010s, the number of AAA games that have managed to be both highly rated and genuinely original can be counted on one hand. The last time I felt this sense of originality was back in 2015 while playing Splatoon on Wii U.

I wish experimental projects like this came along more often, but I doubt they will. Capcom’s stock has apparently taken a hit due to shareholders being dissatisfied with sales. It seems we’ll be sticking with “Indie” games going forward — though I sense a stagnation there as well. Every new indie release is starting to live in the shadow of the previous hit, which is quite an interesting situation.

-Gameplay and Mechanics-
•Gameplay: The mechanics are quite successful. The customization options allow for many different character builds.
•Variety: The weapon selection and attachments are fairly extensive. Despite a relatively short playtime, exploring every corner genuinely rewards you.
•Map: Since I can’t rest until I’ve discovered every point, 100%-ing the map turned into an enjoyable activity rather than a chore for me.
•Difficulty: If I trusted myself more, I’d want to play on Lunatic Mode too. If we had been allowed to carry over standard mode unlocks into hard mode — like in Resident Evil Requiem — I would definitely have tried it; however, the game design doesn’t allow for this, and I respect that.

-Technical Details and Atmosphere-
The graphics and sound design are extremely well-matched with the atmosphere. However, the game is a serious VRAM hog. On the same hardware I played Requiem on, I got significantly lower performance in this game — though once I dialed the settings (preset) down a bit, I was able to achieve a smooth experience.
Characters and Story Presentation
Diana is a genuinely lovable character — so endearing she might just inspire anyone whose biological clock is ticking to want to become a parent. Despite normally being someone who puts story and characters in the backseat in games, I found myself forming a real bond with these characters. In that regard, it more than satisfied me.

-Conclusion-
Capcom is putting out great work this year. I hope the upcoming new Onimusha maintains the same high quality standard.

I liked this game, but I also think it’s an extremely flawed experience.

Back when The Last of Us came out, I owned a PS3 but chose to skip it because I already had an aversion to games where gameplay wasn’t the main focus. As the years passed, the Last of Us hype ballooned massively, and it started being labeled not just as the best game of 2013, but one of the greatest games of all time—mostly by what I’d call “casual PlayStation players.”

Going in already spoiled on the main beats of the story, I’ll be honest—it didn’t have much of an impact on me. I remember playing The Walking Dead in 2012 and being far more affected by it. It explored human interactions in these kinds of worlds much better and delivered a full spectrum of emotions.

As for the gameplay—it’s a complete disaster. It might satisfy people who play one or two games a year and think they understand gaming, but that’s about it. Exploring the map has no real sense of enjoyment, and most of the time, you don’t feel rewarded for the time you spend. The large combat arenas are also meaningless because, on normal difficulty, the game gives you so much ammo and resources that you can just stand still and headshot everyone to clear the area.

I thought maybe this was due to mouse and keyboard advantage, but having just played Resident Evil Requiem, I can confidently say I never experienced even a fraction of the resource scarcity I had there.

The difficulty is way too easy, and when you do die, it’s usually not due to lack of skill, but because you got caught in some unavoidable, frustrating one-hit-kill enemy animation. In short, the game sacrifices responsiveness in its input system so it can show off its animations, resulting in something that looks good but feels clunky and not fun to control.

Still, I’d say the gameplay is average—nothing special, but it does the job. It kept me playing, and I was able to finish it without dropping it, which counts for something. So I wouldn’t call it outright terrible—it just doesn’t have anything unique going for it.

The animations, voice acting, and graphics are good even by today’s standards—but then again, this is a remake, so that’s expected. I can’t say the same for optimization and the PC port. The shader compilation forces you to wait 20 minutes in the menu every time your GPU driver updates, and you can still encounter shader-related visual glitches—there are plenty of complaints about this online. Also, despite being “Steam Deck Verified,” the game froze twice for me. Like other Sony titles, it really doesn’t deserve that verification. (Looking at you, GoW.)

Giving negative review for shader issues and high price, 13 year old games should not cost this much.

Better than the original Separate Ways. It genuinely feels different, thanks to the new inspection and hook mechanics. Not being included in the base game is a bit of a bummer, but the base game itself is so packed with content that I can’t really complain.

Resident Evil Requiem is the perfect blockbuster—an ode to both the remake-era Resident Evil games and classics like RE4. There were so many moments where I thought, “Oh, they brought this scene back too.” The game has genuinely scary sections when playing as Grace, along with kickass action scenes that rival RE6. The difference is that here everything feels coherent and grounded instead of comically exaggerated like RE6. I’m also happy that the series has fully returned to its classic direction after the shift that started with RE7.

Leon’s gameplay and tone are exactly why I loved the original RE4 so much. The flow of the game feels great, and the throwable one-time weapons work much better here than they did in the RE4 remake. If RE4 remake had this same flow, I could honestly say I might have liked it even more than the original RE4. The tone shift is also here—our one-liner Leon is back in his glory days, not overly serious anymore. LOL.

I also liked the survival horror nature of Grace’s sections. They are a little short, but that also makes them very replayable. Unlike older entries in the series, I actually completed this game five times in a row because I was obsessed with it. Normally I finish a game once and move on. If I immediately replay a game, that’s huge praise—and this time I did it five times. Amazing.

A slightly controversial point: the reason I replayed it so much might be the game’s forgiving achievement system. It allows you to use infinite ammo even on Insanity difficulty, and speedrun achievements can be completed on Casual mode. I personally enjoyed having these “helpers,” but some veterans might find it too easy and feel a bit let down by the achievement requirements. For me, it made the game more fun, and I doubt I would have done this many runs without it.

Also, kudos to Capcom for using their in-house engine, which is extremely well optimized and still runs great on the Steam Deck. These days, many modern AAA games struggle to run well on the Deck. Capcom’s game looks better than most UE5 titles while running wonderfully on Valve’s four-year-old handheld, as well as on my RTX 3060 with 6 GB of VRAM. Played the game 2 times on my PC and 3 times on the Deck.

This has been my favorite Resident Evil since RE4.

Immediately bought it after seeing the first "GOG preservation program" game on steam.

I hope other games, like OG Resident Evil Trilogy and Breath of Fire 4, also release on Steam soon.

Easy purchase, but it still needs cloud saves & achievements. Add one of them and will turn this review into a positive one.

A short and sweet indie game; another clay-motion work of art from the creators of Judero. The gameplay loop wears out a bit faster, so while I couldn’t love it as much as Judero, I’m still glad I played it.
