Early Access Review
Grabbed it for £11.51 on the introductory price.
Messed around a bit with a few of the other choppers, used a few of the weapon systems, played through the entire story.

I like it, it's not trying to be everything, it's nostalgic, the story isn't too bad, and the music's great.
It's a little short right now (2.5 hours and finished it with a little bit of goofing off time I didn't beeline the objectives), however it's worth noting they have a roadmap up for what looks like we might get 4x the amount of content in - so I think it'll be very worth the cashies going forward.
I dunno about replayability too much but hopefully they work something out for that (...roguelite mode?).

If this doesn't win game of the year in every award ceremony; a crime happened.
That's it, that's the review.

Ya know what... very positive or better feels right for this game.
I loved it.
The story was pretty good, the action was incredible, the sound track is god tier, and the nods to previous FFs was great.
I don't mean this like it's 'hard', but the combat feels a little souls like, but replace hard, with EPIC.
The scale of some of the fights, especially towards the end... and, both the DLCs were outstanding (Echos being the better in my estimation).

Word of warning though if you want it to look pretty in 4k and be smooth you need a pretty beefy PC.

I mulled over this game for a while.
It's part BOTW, part Spiderman, part Alice in Wonderland, with a dose of originality too.

I enjoyed this game. Thoroughly, and recommend it overall - it has a few shortcomings, and ironically, those are mostly the shortcomings you see in Breath of The Wild.

Pros;
The parkour is actually really fun, once the world opens up to you it's actually quite fun to just go explore.
The combat is actually pretty decent and the different enemies and schools of magic rewards you enough that, even though you couuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuld one trick your way through the game, you don't really want to, which entices you then to try out entire spell trees, once you found your build per tree you don't tend to waiver from it but I'd wager that that build is different for different people.
The music is excellent.
The dialogue is actually pretty decent(*) and
The overall story and it's twists and turns are internally consistent - enough that most of the major beats I predicted, but in that satisfying way, rather than 'this was entirely mundane and dull'.
..It did mean I was shorn a surprise but even knowing what was to come the execution was good enough it was still enjoyable. Like watching a Marvel movie or what have you.

Cons;
If you don't like exploring the world - if you didn't enjoy BOTW as a big mostly empty expanse with spare enemies to fight and points of interest to visit and subdue or pray at or take pictures at or what have you....maybe give this one a pass.
For story reasons you are largely out there on your own, just you and your sidekick which leads me to the (*) on dialogue...
The Dialogue is good, I promise. The bit I was a litttttle bit tired of was the fact that you only hear Frey and her sidekick most of the time when you're out exploring; which isn't that bad until you're 30 hours in and realise you heard all the lines already when stumbling into a fight or a ruin or whatever, and kinda wishing you could turn them off... for the 'main story' and scripted events the dialogue is perfectly fine.
One final 'con'...
I didn't like the crafting system. It felt like it didn't really need to be in the game, but that one is just me, the system itself is fine, it just felt like it was..tagged on.

Overall, though, from chasing cats to saving the world, I really did find this 'fun'.
It's a shame it got so much bad press, and I don't really recommend it for it's RRP, but 50% or more on sale? yeah I heartily recommend for anyone curious, try the demo - it's mid game, but that's mostly so you can muck around with stuff.

For further info; the 'bad press' on this came from 3 places mostly;

People slamming the narrative with the heroine not being 'standard gamer heroine'. Which honestly is such a waste of a take.
People crying (I feel legitimately) about the price point. Games shouldn't be this expensive SQEX, Sorry. If you can't make them "this good" without charging this price point, don't make them "this good." and charge appropriately less.
And finally;
The PC version was hit early on with lots of complaints about frame rate issues and other things, this was before the public had really considered the effect of VRAM on gaming with the new consoles and lazy (yeah I said it) game devs ignoring VRAM capacities of your average PC users when making ports.
I have a 3080 10GB, this was the first game that truly hit the VRAM wall for me (there's others out there now especially but this was the first), the game crashed and lagged and I didn't quite understand what was going on until I got into the guts of it after seeing VRAM issues elsewhere; I hadn't bought the game cuz I crashed every time I tried to run the demo.
A couple of patches from SQEX, and turning down a few graphics settings (*I previously had them basically all on max at 4k), I brought the games VRAM budget under 9GB and had a perfect experience after that, then bought the game in the steam sale.

It's a pity this game got held back by those 3 things because honestly, the devs deserved to make more dlc/more stuff together.
This coulda been the start of something like DICEs Mirror's Edge.
The fans, well they said no.

I've played this game a fair bit now, and failed at it a bunch but I seriously love it. Really looking forward to the updates to come!

I enjoyed this game a lot in the early access run up to it's release.. it was a decent roguelike with some decent potential.
Since it's release, it's gone from strength to strength, if you like 'looter shooters', or roguelikes, or just wanna blast with your friends, this game has huge potential, and the devs work on it has been amazing all the way through.

Hoping more is coming!

I haven't been able to play anywhere near as much as I would like of this, but I love it so much.
Love the community around it, and watching others play it too.

Genuinely one of the best VR games.

Having played much more of this now - I stand by my original statement, especially with the modding work done by the community, adding custom songs and sabers, and avatars - this game is just a joy to play.

It does need a fair bit of space to play it fully though!

It's not as good as the first one, it's biggest let down is the fact that it's only partially voice acted, but other than that it's a really good game :)
Try it!
