Early Access Review
The project as of 12/3/2026 feels terribly mismanaged.

With a 3 year time span in-between the last set of levels and the just released ones. One would expect them to have come out on a far better state than they did. The latest set of levels are unpolished, broken, untested and have horrendous performance on almost every fight.

While in that span of time, a good amount of updates were dedicated towards remaking assets and levels that really didn't need to and the final result is neigh undistinguishable or uglier. With one of the levels in the first stage having just been made slower for a joke.

So with this in mind, for an early access game which the whole appeal of the format is to have lenient deadlines and more accessible development cycles. It makes me put into question the direction wasting time remaking assets that didn't need to and above that setting themselves up for failure with a release date they hit by the nails of their toes.

And even then the current version of this set of levels is so poor that it has compelled me to even write this, and with no signs of getting better for a whole, as the team has (rightfully) taken a break after this.

With my main directive being the developer's well being and health in mind. They should never set a release date for an update they very much couldn't have finished in time and they didn't. I really hope they end up realizing this and how unsustainable it is for a game that shouldn't need to abide by those rules. I would've much more preferred to have to wait another year than the sour after taste I have even writing this review.

I wish nothing but the best for ULTRAKILL and the people behind it, but I cannot in good faith support the way it's being managed.

One of the best online multiplayer games ever made. Literally unplayable due to mass botting.

I cannot in good faith recommend this game to anyone. As playing the game right now puts your entire PC at risk, the Kernel Level Anti-Cheat known as GameGuard is extremely unstable and tends to hijack applications in your PC and screw with them, and at worst it can kill your hardware, many people have lost their entire systems due to horrible hardlocking that skips BSoDs on Windows.

GameGuard also heavily handicaps the overall performance of the game taking a great amount of CPU usage, even more than the game itself does sometimes. I will not change this review until HD2 is back to being safe to play on PC.

Black Mesa is a remiagination, not a remake nor a remaster of the orginal Half-Life, this said it aims to use the base and the story of Half-Life without conflicting with its main plot and the progression the player goes through, the reason this game has to be referred as a reimagination and not a remake is becasue of how much it modifies some of the integral parts of both the combat and how the enemies work, which becomes the major issue with the whole game, the gameplay and gunplay is way slower and less fluid than the original game, movment and gunplay is slower, the player cant carry anywhere as much ammo as the player could in the original, which on itself wouldnt be that much of a problem if the gunplay wasnt so much of a far cry from the original appart from the fact the player runs way slower, guns take a lot more to reload and quickswitching weapons has been slowed down and made extremly inconvinient since youll still have to eventually go through the slow reload animations that for what I see sometimes take less and sometimes more depending on a weird mechanic, the pace of the game is also slowed down with the game taking a lot more time to get weapons such as the pistol and crowbar for no appearent reason breaking the flow of the introduction, another of the mistakes of Black Mesa is the fact it uses a lot of the arenas and layouts of the original but because of the combat, movement and the changes done to the enemies that heavily affect the flow of the combat, Vortigaunts and enemy that would in the original attack you with an energy ray if you didnt take cover in time and failed to so in the time it charges it attack and would also melee the player if the player got too close, have been changed in a way that makes them dodge your attacks which is not that bad, but they also gave them an attack that has almost no visual que to when its going to happen, and just damages you if youre cloose to them, which breaks the fights flow, and the worst offender of this is AI of the HECU soldiers which act completly different than what they use to in the original, Black Mesa´s HECU have an accuracy close to a hit-scan attack that can sometimes even shot you through certain props, they dont run around and flank you, they just run straight at you and shoot you like HL2´s combine, they also throw grandes like the original HECU but these actual makes fights worse, since the enemies are basically hit-scan shreed you, they also gave the HECU rocket launchers, which while makes sense it brakes the flow too, shotgunner HECU also deal stupid amounts of damage at large distances, going back at the weapons, they are slow and in cases like the MP5 it has a slight and annoying recoil, the SPAS-12 punishes you really hard if you miss your shots, and there also seems to be damage fall-off since sometimes enemies will take more to kill depending on the distance you are from them, they also gave the Magnum a ironsight which is barealy useful, as the weapon feels really weak, the fights with the HECU which were one of the most enjoyable parts of HL1 are now the worst part of the game and I just run past them, one of the biggest positives about Black Mesa is that the Xen chapter were completly reimagined and work better with this combat in mind, but there are still parts were are just awful.

Now, should you play Black Mesa or the original first?
I would recommend you to play first the original and then this just to appriciate the work, enviroments and to play the Xen chapters.

While the original is Run. Think. Shoot. Live.
Black Mesa is Take cover. Reload. Shoot. Reload again.

CS:GO Review
Its great they finally made CS:GO free to play, I cna play with my friends, the gun play is fun, and the new Danger zone gamemode does stuff that makes battle royale in a different way, its fun and WAY quicker than other battle royale games, mayor people complain that is unfair that they bought the game and now its free, but people still need to consider they GIFTED prime status to everyone that bought the game before this change, and this is just a necessary change to bring new players to the game, but everyone got a choice in what to to think about the change, and you can hust give the game a try.
