Unless you REALLY like isometric shooters, just don't bother.
Novelty of being edgy man wears off extremely fast, the "art direction" got me killed a few times, credits song is good but i'd rather it as an instrumental.

Absolutely fantastic outside of chapter 3 which just took too long and had me looking up how many chapters this game had.
Took a little getting use to not having to aim to use a weapon, has 2010 syndrome where it's extremely obvious where a major battle/boss fight will happen.
Loved the story, loved the mechanics, driving was wonky but it's few and far between so i can excuse it. My only regret is taking so long to finally play it.

Base game: Bad after you exit the hotel, jokes were dated when the game released and the game starts to drag on and overstay its welcome with "bursts" of fighting followed by a lot of walking and very basic puzzles, genuinely terrible once you get to the dam which takes the last half of the game, found myself tabbed out bored more than playing that last half.

DLC: Way better than base game and doesn't overstay its welcome, a few amusing jokes and a lot less walking and doing nothing.

Buy it on sale. I think they were embarrassed because the store screenshots only showed the first ~quarter of the game and the MP. The game also breaks over 180 fps and in-game FPS limiting caused awful stuttering for me so you have to limit it through drivers.

update: I 100%'d it. Base game pretty much requires so much cheesing and speedrun strats if you're playing on the hardest difficulty.

I WANT to like this game, but it cannot shake its old source engine unbalance in its maps, they look bad, they feel bad, there's a handful of maps that ARE FUN or alright looking but are not necessarily good maps. The maps are akin to something you'd make for your 2nd or 3rd map but I wouldn't make a whole game out of them, either they're extremely ugly (source 04 sorta thing) or terribly unbalanced. Horseshoe is both a pretty and balanced-feeling map for this game.

UI is horribly broken on anything other than what I assume to be 4:3, the main menu is sort of a weird gmod server sort of ad for server hosing and discord, the whole game feels abandoned. These kind of war games are few and far between so get yourself some friends for a few hours of fun if you like them. Gunplay is very musket-y and you will miss most shots. You are also 100% locked into your reload animation if you chose to reload.

Melee is objectively overpowered if you aim for the head, not questions about it. Bots are mostly broken or completely broken on most maps, movement feels like source 07 but not in a good way.

I like these kind of games, but for ~6 years? c'mon guys. Just make it play better or balance the maps and it'd be awesome.

Average to bad story. Terrible online. Money hungry publisher. Missing features and details from the previous game that came out years earlier.

Lazy story design, starting out strong then quickly dissolving into a forgettable mess of bad missions.

Rampant cheaters in public online lobbies, though with 500+ hours, trainers are also the only way you can have fun in online mode too. If you want to do online missions, hope you love fetch quests or playing the same heists over and over again.

Doesn’t help that the publisher, Take 2, decided to shut down OpenIV while Rockstar was praising modding at the same time, so Take 2 could think that they were taking care of online trainers, when they were just blowing their foot off. Absolutely brain dead.

I'm disappointed with myself by buying this game twice (Xbox 360 and PC).

Ok so I never review games, like, ever. But I'm reviewing this game. Why? Because I've never been on such an emotional roller coaster in a game, yet, had such a great time. I laughed. I cried (literally, tears were shed, not only once either). I was angry, and I was happy. But most importantly, I had fun for the entirety of the game. At no point in my 12 hour play through I wasn’t having fun or enjoying the story. In fact, it felt a lot more like a 4-6 hour game.

Undertale is a game that I can see myself going back to and replaying just to see more and enjoy it all over again, even if I get the same ending. I grew up in the 64-bit/ps1 era so I have no nostalgia for the graphics style of this game, but I felt that the graphics style throughout the game fit the scenario and that it most likely would not have been as attention drawing if it was 3d. It also has a great soundtrack.

My only gripe with it is that you cannot rebind keys, though it isn’t too bad and it definitely does not withdraw from the experience. I’d just rather WSAD over arrow keys. But I can also see why he made the choice over WSAD for certain sections of the game.

I never knew that I could become so attached to video game characters to make me legitimately care for them like I would a real person. I did a pacifist run of this game which I feel is the best way to experience this game for the first time, and even then I didn’t get to experience everything this game has to offer. I do not recommend doing a genocide run for your first play through because, to quote South Park “you’re gonna have a bad time” and it simply isn’t as fun.

My final thoughts are that Undertale is one of the best games this year and it took me on an adventure that I’ll probably never forget. For $10 this game is a steal compared to other triple-A games that have come out in recent years.
