I don't like leaving negative reviews, but it seems I'm another casualty of the "not eligible for migration" error.

Early Access Review
5 years on and 100 updates strong, still the best gun simulator on Steam. An absolute must-have for anyone with a VR headset.

Before I get into the review, Steam shows I've played for 3 hours. I bought the game through Origin first, and recently picked it up through Steam. Thank you for understanding.

tl;dr It's the same Burnout Paradise from 2008 with some minor graphical improvements. If you enjoy arcade-style racing games and/or Burnout games in general, you should have a good time with this.

You'll see this game has mixed reviews on the store page right now. While some people are genuinely having issues getting the game running, (look for the community patch, that should hopefully help) a surprising amount of people complain about the game not being up to 2018 standards. You should go into this game expecting a 2008 game with a few graphical enhancements, and all DLC available from the start. Oh boy, here we go.

As far as graphical enhancements go, from what I can tell the textures are cleaner, the smoke effects are refined, tire tracks are a bit nicer, reflections are improved, a few extra details are strewn about the world, and the pre-rendered cutscenes have been updated to match the higher resolutions available in 2018. Oh joyous day, the cutscenes are 1080p instead of 720p! But even more important than better graphics, Big Surf Island and all it's content is finally available on PC. Right, speaking about DLC...

Burnout Paradise had quite a lot of DLC for 2008, which has made it's way into Burnout Paradise Remastered for zero additional cost. (Thank you EA, for not making us pay for the DLC again.) That said, yes. All DLC cars and Big Surf Island are available from the start. Some people see this as an issue, as a few DLC cars are incredibly powerful, such as the Carson GT Nighthawk. While you could let this ruin your experience, you could also choose not to use them while playing through the bulk of the single-player and only use the cars you earn through progression... or you could use the GT Nighthawk as an easy win for most events. I won't judge, just please don't roam multiplayer sessions in the GT Nighthawk trying to rack up as many takedowns on randoms as humanly possible. It's not nice.

Now that I've gone over those topics, it's time to move on to the progression. This game doesn't have a 'story'. You are given a car, you race the car, and eventually you get a better car. That is Burnout Paradise in it's simplest form. This game is repetitive, and that is part of the progression. Every X amount of events, you get an upgraded license and are given a car, but all events you completed become cleared and you need to do X amount of events to get an upgraded license until you get your Burnout Elite license, where the credits roll and you reflect on the time you spent playing the game. If you're intending to 100% complete the game (like I did, twice) you NEED a controller, and if you fail an event just press right on the D-pad and go down to 'Restart last event'. I didn't know that until my second playthrough, and I wish I did.

So, to summarize (again). This is the original Burnout Paradise with some minor graphical improvements, and all DLC available from the start (except Time Saver's pack, good riddance). I might be forgetting some things, but it doesn't matter. It's Burnout Paradise Remastered, and it's still good. I give it a 9/10, the game gets frustratingly hard at some points and searching for smashables can be a pain, but it's oh so satisfying to know I got 100% completion.

HALF-LIFE! This FPS may look dated to some, but to others? Best game to date. Why? Because nostalgia. Even if you haven't played it before, it's still one heck of an experience, one that every fan of FPSes should experience. If you don't enjoy this game, that's ok. I respect your opinion, but chances are if you're reading this you haven't played this, or you're considering purchasing this game in comparison to some other game. Now, I won't go into detail on the story, because the story is best experienced in person. Before I go any further, you MUST understand that this game has been remade from scratch to look, and play to today's standards. Same game, much better. "But you haven't told me just what this miracle is called!" It's called Black Mesa (Real clever name there, eh?) If you're looking for graphics, but you want to play this game, look at that, the team did an amazing job on Black Mesa, but clearly you're still here, on the original.

So, the story? I won't go into detail on that, as previously mentioned, as the story has much more impact when you don't know what's going to happen before entering the world of Half-Life. This is true for both versions of this game.

Looking for a Half-Life remastering made by a team of professionals? Go for Black Mesa.

Looking for the original made by a team of geniuses nearly 20 years ago? Go for the original, the best, Half-Life.

Half-Life is the game that started it all, the 3D FPS Genre was redefined by this game. Players were in for a real treat when they first got this, and that experience can still be had by players around the world today.

My opinion? I'd go for Black Mesa, but preferably, I'd play the original, then the remastered version.

10/10 Best game from 1998.

By the way, be prepared to get stuck in this game numerous times. It's a puzzle game too, y'know.

Look above or below, anyone could tell you "You start as a guy who makes games out of his garage and make his way up to a decent sized office building" but I'm here to tell you, that is true, but what is so fun about this game, is the fact that you could make whatever game you want, but what makes it better is, if you wanted to, make the Half-Life series, and then see how the critics respond to it. (If you look in my screenshots, you can see that the critics don't respond like they would in real life, "Dialogues not important in Half-Life 2?" XD) Sure, that game is a little hard to stay out of debt... but that is probably how some companies started, with a bit of money realizing it's gone by next week. Wait, no, that's not a real life company, that's just what happened to me when I tried to make zombie games.

Anyway... When you first start the game, you get this cute message from Greenheart Games that thanks you for purchasing their game, when you finish the game for the first time, you get another nice message from Greenheart Games that says that they hope that you liked their game, and that if you like it, share it with your friends. I find this a neat touch that says "Yes, I care about our consumers, and hope they like our first game that we put a lot of work in to." Honestly, this is a good thing.

So, I have got this far and haven't even typed about how to play. Meh, why tell you when you can find out yourself! The game is $10, and if you can get it on sale, great! This game is well worth $10, and I think that if you are thinking about getting this game, GO FOR IT!

By the way... Mods make this game too easy. Like the valve mod, I sold Left4Dead, Almost got a perfect 10 and sold nearly 1 billion in the first week. Play the game legit, then try mods, that's what I reccomend.

Why are you still reading this? Here, have a cookie for reading this way-too-long-review... oh wait, I can't give you a cookie through a review, sorry :(

Still just as fun as when it released, but now with workshop/modding support, revived online mode, and proper Steam Deck compatibility. Plus it works better with modern hardware so there's no need for a community patch or widescreen fix

Massive props to the devs that are keeping this classic alive
