South of Midnight was fun.
I'm not going to say it is one of my favorites, as I am not terribly fond of games that are on the more linear side. Also, every combat encounter is essentially the same, with a new enemy added here and there. The boss fights offer a somewhat refreshing break of this.
The soundtrack of South of Midnight is fantastic. I would go as far to say that it is the highlight of the game. The in-game music is even curated to the level you are playing, on the boss you are fighting.
The story is decent. The game delves into some sensitive topics like trauma & loss, coming across as relatable or attempting to raise awareness.

It's not a bad game. But that's all I can say about Side Effects.
It's something I will buy, play with friends once or twice, and then forget I own. Time goes on.

I think about how redheads also have like, ginger pubic hair. It's kind of gross, I am not going to lie.

It's been 420 hours and I still don't know how to play right, I guess.

I liked it when he said "Let it die." and everyone just started dying.

I like when colon brought the gun into a hospital with the evil residents.

My dad did the same thing, but he quit a few hours into the game and sucked at it.

I have been enjoying my time, but this does not come without drawbacks. I will be using Destiny 2 as a reference.

PROS:
+ A community who has yet to make fun of me for not knowing how to grind the exotic Cabal, monkey flip beam smasher, with built in 4 setting pulse vibrations and moaning emote.
+ Good movement system, gunplay, graphics & VA, all considering it's free to p(l)ay.
- Some of the game goes hard to your favorite music as long as players don't use what I'll mention below.
- An easy 100% but that is depending on your motivation.

CONS:
- A gameplay loop almost more repetitive than Desiny 2. It could be more, but that is subjective.
- A sometimes intimidating learning curve, specifically when learning how to build a character and craft when you don't want to use some boring online build that shoots boogers and turns the game into an AFK farming simulator. (You know which one if you have already played.)
- Activision level store prices. I am mixed because the game quality is good and can arguably justify it if developers need money back. It's still appaling, though.
- Poor optimization. I built a friend a desktop with a decent CPU and a RTX 3080 and somethi g is throttling him to 40 FPS, which has been unseen in any other game.
