Clair Obscur 33, Men where to start?

Right from the start this game pulls you in. The story manages to grab you and never really let’s go. You start out in Lumiere as Gustav and immediately learn your mission. Defeat the Pain tress, so no more people die during the gommage. Every year the pain tress changes the number and everyone of that age dies. So when she changes the number from 34 to 33, all people age 34 will die.

You enter the expedition and from there on you try to defeat the Pain tress. The game is really a roller coaster right. The story stays interesting throughout the whole game and has some amazing plot twist. You really do build a relation with your expedition party. You start to know your party members more and more and as you level them up they will learn new skills, get new bonuses and get new equipment.

During the expedition you pass some truly beautiful environments. The world really feels like you are only touching the tip of it. It feels like there is so much more you don’t see. It has a history, and is full of secrets. The game is linear, but as you progress you do have the option to go back to level-up, defeat optional bosses and get new equipment. Although handy, this is not a requirement in any way.

The gameplay is rather simple, but done really well. It’s turn based gameplay with quick time events to mix it up a bit. This might sound boring to some, but even as someone who doesn’t play much turn based games, I never really felt it was boring. Thanks to the excellent turn based mechanics you’re always on edge and every fight feels winnable. Even if you’re underleveled you still feel you can win as long as you dodge or parry properly.

As said previously, during the game you level up your party members and get new gear. The leveling of your characters has a lot of options. This makes it so that you can really fine-tune them to how you like to play. Want a character to act more as a support? a tank? Or a heavy DPS? All possible!

I could go on and on about this game, but I would really just recommend playing it. Even if you normally don’t like turn based games, or it’s not your favorite, just give it a try. The story and environments lone are 100% worth this game. Clair Obscur 33 is a fantastic game everyone should at least try.

Duck Detective: The Secret Salami is a fun little detective game. It's short but had a cute art style and a decent amount of challenge to it, although I think some of the clues could've been a bit more clear.

It's nothing to write home about but not a bad game either. If you're looking for a short game you can finish in a night and fancy some detective/mystery type of game it's worth a shot!

Plants vs. Zombies™ Garden Warfare 2 has been on my wishlist for a couple of years and with the recent sale I decided to finally buy it. It never really had many players but with the recent winter sale it has gotten a new injection of players. Lobbies are found quick, but match making certainly has its quirks. Quite often I got a error saying no suitable lobby could be found and I had to retry or even restart the game.

Now the game itself is heavily based around loot boxes (as you expect from EA) with new skins, abilities and characters that can be unlocked this way. You can also earn in game points to buy these loot boxes (packs) and unlock it that way but that will take you a long time. So it's a bit of pay to win for sure.

The game runs smooth and looks great. There are multiple game modes that will give you a nice variety but in the end it is just a arena/hero shooter so it might get a bit monotone. The maps however are fun and look great, they really show the theming well.

Now would I recommend this game? It depends... It's fun for a game every now and then but it lacks content to stay fun for the long run. If you can pick it up for a cheap price and it still has some players, sure go for it. Otherwise, you're not missing out by skipping this one.

A fun little co-op puzzle game. The puzzles could have been a bit harder and lack a bit of depth at times, but it's certainly not bad and it's all good fun with a friend over discord. The theme is awesome and I would love to play a sequel!

Disco Elysium is a great story rich point and click game. The world it builds feels alive and full of mysteries. The world of Elysium is unique and a blast to explore. You wake up in a trashed Hotel room and can’t remember anything. Who are you? What happened in this room? Not only are you tasked with solving a murder, you’re also solving yourself out. Finding out who you are, where you work, live and what happened. This is a fascinating take and adds more depth to the game. Anytime you learn a bit more about your character, you also feel a stronger bond with it.

The characters you encounter in the game are memorable and each have their own unique identity. You really get to know people after a while and each time you come back, they might have something new to tell. Talking about the dialogue, for me, it is really a 50/50. The dialogue is interesting and really builds a relationship with the characters. You do really start to like some of them, and dislike others. It does exactly what it should do. But also a bit directionless. Characters have a lot of dialogue and you never know what you need in your investigation and what details you can ignore. Now I get it, this is part of the game and makes you think twice about everything they say but for me after playing the game for about 14 hours it resulted in a lot of confusion. Too many details to remember, and because now all of it is relevant, in fact most of it isn't. I just forgot important details. Besides, the writing is good but also a bit tedious at the same time. Conversations can feel overly long. As I said it’s really a mixed bag for me, I liked it, but at the same time I think it could lose some details and density. What doesn't help the dialogue either is you’re not only talking to a specific character, you are also in discussion with your own thoughts.

Dialogue does give you the freedom to be who you want. Convince people you’re a superstar for example and these dialogue options often lead to hilarious consequences. Nothing that changes the game too much, but you will notice the consequences.

Gameplay wise there is little to say. It’s a point and click, although you can also freely walk around. You mostly click on things and read.

Overall, I can see why this game receives the praise it gets, but after 14 hours I was done with it. To me the game, especially the dialogue is a bit too much at times, and the game should/could have been a bit shorter. On the other hand, the world it builds with the depth the conversations have is truly unique. You can lose yourself in it for hours upon hours. If you like dialogue heavy detective like games, I can recommend this, it’s just not for everybody.

First and foremost, let me say that Killing Floor is one of my favorite franchises. I started all the way back with KF1, and when KF2 launched, I instantly bought it and have never really stopped playing it. I might not have the most hours in the game, but played it on and off throughout the years.

I was quite hyped for KF3, and initially on launch I had a 50/50 feeling. I liked some parts, disliked other parts. Nonetheless, I still had fun for the first 10–20 hours, partly because it felt refreshing, but also partly because I played with friends.

More and more however, I started to see through this initial hype. Let me start with the good parts.

Killing Floor 3 has much better movement mechanics which suit the game well. The graphics also got a nice boost and the game looks really good and the gore is also better than it ever was.

Sadly, there’s much more downsides. Starting off with the low map pool. KF3 only has 8 maps, and with the lack of the workshop support this is just not enough. Especially not because the maps are designed quite badly. In KF1 & 2 the maps were designed in such a way that running through them and kiting the ZED’s was the go-to move. In KF3 you just.. Camp in a hallway with the full team and that's it.

I also don't like the revamped weapon system. Making your own classes and weapon combinations seems fun at first, but it takes away from the game. The moment you need to google for best builds and need to grind loot to buy upgrades, you really take the core focus of just killing ZED’s with good music away.

But that’s not all. The most important of everything… Is the stability. The game runs like ♥♥♥♥, performance is low and there are lots of crashes. The game isn’t receiving a lot of updates either. Each patch that comes out breaks more than it fixes, and content is nowhere to be seen.

KF3 also launched with a lot less perks than KF2 or KF1. Which is not bad on itself, but considering everything I said above, this is just another downer.

Considering everything together, I just can’t recommend KF3 right now. The game has potential, but sadly it just doesn’t feel like a real Killing Floor game. This together with all the bad points I listed above, and the player count going downhill quickly, I would hold off and see where this game is in a couple of years. Just for the record, I did really try to like this game. I’m a massive fan and really wanted to like this one.

I really enjoyed the first Dead Island. I played through it multiple times. I tried Dead Island Riptide twice but never really got into it. Dead Island 2 looked fresh when it was first revealed, but got stuck in development hell which made me worry what the end result would be.

First off, let me say this game really surprised me! The graphics looks good, the gameplay is a lot better than the first Dead Island and the environments, although small, look excellent. I didn’t really like the starting area of the game, but it soon gets better with better looking and more interesting maps!

The story is… fine I guess. It’s a Dead Island story. Purely there for being there and it adds little to the game if you ask me. You play this mostly to discover the various area’s and meet fun and interesting characters.

Dead Island 2 is just a lot of fun with other people. Messing around, Completing quests, finding interesting weapons and just smashing zombies. Is it special? Nah, not really. Would I pay full price for it? Heck no. But for the right price, with the right friend(s) Dead Island 2 will surely give you a couple of fun nights!

Stray is alright, but nothing too special. I surely enjoyed the game, especially the environments are beautiful and full of detail. It's a blast to walk through the cities and nature and the controls are really good. The story is bare bones but enough to keep you entertained. Besides the previously mentioned points the game does not have much to offer though. It's a walking simulator on steroids, that takes (if you ask me) to long to finish.

Overall the game is good and playing a cat is done really well and a original concept. But because the gameplay is otherwise so limited and the game starts to feel a bit repetitive after a while, I recommend it only on a sale.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was my first Batman game, and to be honest I never had much with the Batman or DC universe. Still, the gameplay looked fun & the world looked awesome.

I must say, I’m pleasantly surprised, especially considering the fact this game is now almost 15 years old. Let’s start with the looks. You can see this is an older game, but it doesn’t look bad in any way. You notice the aging mostly in the mechanics and character models, while the environments still look good. Talking about environments, in this game you roam around the island of Arkham Asylum. The map is small and consists mostly of a set of buildings where you go back and forth for the main quest. The buildings offer unique environments, and are all just different enough for it to feel fresh and I also like the idea of going back to places, especially because some of these places change based on the story. I do wish the map would’ve been a bit bigger and offer more exploration.

The gameplay and especially the combat is of course where Batman games shine. First the gameplay. It plays.. Fine. It’s not bad, but it definitely shows its age and can feel a bit clunky at times. The combat however, still feels solid to this day. It’s free flowing combat, a bit on the button mashing side, but it feels great. Batman performs combos, jumps over enemies and finishes them off all while feeling fluent, yet responsive. It’s better than most games to this day.

The story is great. It brings some great characters we all know like Scarecrow, Croc, Batman(duh), Poison Ivy and some more. Especially Joker is done really well, and throughout the story there are a lot of typical Joker moments.

I would highly recommend this game, even after 15 years. It still holds up as a fun single player game, with an interesting map, great characters and some funny moments.

Fabledom is a fun take on the city building genre. It's much more relaxing and a lot less complex, but still offers some depth and keeps you busy with new buildings and mechanics throughout the game. You don't get attacked constantly and the management part is simple yet effective. All of this results in you being able to focus on your city, and the beauty of it, rather then digging through management menu's. It doesn't do anything remarkable or note-worthy but is just a fun little game for a couple of cozy game nights. The only downside I had is that the late game can be kind of tedious. At some point you unlocked almost everything, and it can take ages to finish the last couple of quest.

It's a short game, with a lovely style and perfect if you love fairy tales.
