Clair Obscur 33, Men where to start?

Right from the start this game pulls you in. The story manages to grab you and never really let’s go. You start out in Lumiere as Gustav and immediately learn your mission. Defeat the Pain tress, so no more people die during the gommage. Every year the pain tress changes the number and everyone of that age dies. So when she changes the number from 34 to 33, all people age 34 will die.

You enter the expedition and from there on you try to defeat the Pain tress. The game is really a roller coaster right. The story stays interesting throughout the whole game and has some amazing plot twist. You really do build a relation with your expedition party. You start to know your party members more and more and as you level them up they will learn new skills, get new bonuses and get new equipment.

During the expedition you pass some truly beautiful environments. The world really feels like you are only touching the tip of it. It feels like there is so much more you don’t see. It has a history, and is full of secrets. The game is linear, but as you progress you do have the option to go back to level-up, defeat optional bosses and get new equipment. Although handy, this is not a requirement in any way.

The gameplay is rather simple, but done really well. It’s turn based gameplay with quick time events to mix it up a bit. This might sound boring to some, but even as someone who doesn’t play much turn based games, I never really felt it was boring. Thanks to the excellent turn based mechanics you’re always on edge and every fight feels winnable. Even if you’re underleveled you still feel you can win as long as you dodge or parry properly.

As said previously, during the game you level up your party members and get new gear. The leveling of your characters has a lot of options. This makes it so that you can really fine-tune them to how you like to play. Want a character to act more as a support? a tank? Or a heavy DPS? All possible!

I could go on and on about this game, but I would really just recommend playing it. Even if you normally don’t like turn based games, or it’s not your favorite, just give it a try. The story and environments lone are 100% worth this game. Clair Obscur 33 is a fantastic game everyone should at least try.
