Its so much fun...

OK let me be clearer.

I'll recommend blender to anyone wanting to get into 3D Design and Modelling.
Not just because its free, But because of how powerful the bloody software is.

The user interface can be hassle to get used to, but trust me once you get used to it and learn the EXTREMELY useful keyboard shortcuts. It'll be a blast to use.

I think it can be compared to Photoshop; confusing interface, but extremely useful once you get used to it.
