Timeless classic! Get it for free while you still can! Even if the offer ends, you should still buy!
If you're feeling curious, masochistic, or just want to waste some money, though, get the Source version for either $0.99 USD or $0.59 USD (if you buy the HL complete bundle and have all the other games) and install the fixed mod until the offer ends on November 21st.

Or, get Black Mesa if you still want to spend money.

Overall, this is a fun arcade-style time waster with some neat End of Watch-style elements. There are some flaws, though.
- No subtitles (makes it hard to figure out who is who).
-Can't skip some of the cutscenes (especially the intro one, even on repeat playthroughs).
-No separate mode that allows checkpoint restarts or extra lives (Would've loved the option along with the hardcore mode that restarts all the way from the beginning.)
-Some shots appear to require specific placements, making it awkward to hit (especially the last suspect at the end of the first level).

Edit 2: Just completed the entire game. Hope to see more someday.

While the game needs improvement in many areas, I am glad that not only a patrol officer game is out, but also that an actual police officer is developing it. As long as the game does not get abandoned, jank is par for the course in early access. Finally, I admire the dedication to working on and releasing the game even after its Kickstarter failed almost three years ago. Not even the police quest devs stuck to their spiritual successor after their Kickstarter failed.

Even if this game starts out as a walking simulator, it's much, much better than PSPD. Littering is in, which is not in LSPDFR (only in gta IV LCPDFR), there is a distinction between frisking and searching, and it has a unique Boston style. Plus, the devs are actively listening on discord and steam for bugs and suggestions. Excellent communication compared to Bigmoon (especially with roadmaps). I could see this competing with LSPDFR if it's actively worked on.

Disclaimer: I was a closed beta tester for this game starting from October 9, 2018-June 18, 2019, so some information might be outdated. No compensation of any sort (other than a beta key) was provided to me.

Updates: I just got off of a shift after a traffic duty mission where I frisked a suspect and found a switchblade. He was arrested shortly after. Was not taking an emergency call, just doing proactive beat work. Also, the plate information for illegally parked vehicles in traffic duty show up on the PDA, but not on the computer. Also received word that others have arrested those with warrants outside of missions and calls.

While there are flaws, I would personally recommend it because it actually works fairly well for what it is. Although it looks like there is more bad and good, it’s one of the better police games released recently.

Pros:
Decent graphics
Actual interrogations and investigations on some calls.
Gathering evidence and cleaning up a crime scene is mostly fleshed out.
Functional DUI checkpoints on some missions
Every pedestrian can be interacted with in some way: from cops to grocery clerks.
Ambient police radio and conversations can be heard while patrolling
Diners, gas stations, and supermarkets are accessible
Tow trucks actually hook vehicles up instead of teleportation (unlike other police games).
Climbing up the ranks to earn guns and other equipment (some people might not like this)
Functional turn signals on player vehicle
No quick time events
Love the EMS response with putting patients on stretcher and into the ambulance.
Details such as moving traffic on police station camera monitor.
Points taken away for misconduct
Modding capability (at least for vehicle skins, don’t know about other things).
Somewhat large city

Cons:
Backup can’t be called during a callout or traffic stop (felony stops included, exception for transport)
People get incapacitated from pepper spray (fine with tasers and guns, but pepper spray seems too unrealistic in that context).
No AR15 rifles for police in the game
Most criminal events seem to be missions and callouts.
No follow ups on some unsolved cases (Officer shot or robbery as examples)
Calls about use of stolen credit cards take place outside instead of inside a store
Lack of certain calls such as “burglary in progress,” “trespassing,” or “traffic stop backup.”
No AI partner except for some escort missions and co-op.
Illegally parked vehicles don’t have plate information on the computer.
Can’t transport suspects yourself
Missions and patrolling around for calls can be repetitive
Can only tow cars and search trunks (trunks searched only in traffic stops with driver present), can’t search entire vehicle
No passengers in civilian cars.
No new official content will be added (for now).

I recommend this game wholeheartedly. A veteran of realistic shooters will enjoy this because of the realistic gameplay. It might take a lot for a new player to get used to this game, but all it takes is a little practice. It has a variety of weapons for both sides and it also has a fair share of game modes including co-op. If you have played games like the Arma series or any of the America's Army games, then this game is for you.

It actually doesn't bring back that AA2 nostalgia but it is somewhat realistic to me. The patches have really improved this game and it's much easier to find a server. The enemy AI will start looking for you whenever you kill one of them. The friendly AI is kind of stupid but other than that,this game is fun and somewhat tactical.
