Steam and its infamously poor customer service has now issued that it will be possible to receive refunds from their games, something that was impossible up until now. There are certain requirements surrounding the process of refunding games purchased on Steam, but here is the basic rundown: Any game can be refunded within 14 days of purchase as long as time spent playing the game does not exceed two hours. This has been a much needed feature for Steam as it has been practically impossible to get any refunds from purchased games unless something outrageous happens, such as that one game that was released on Early Access and was recalled and refunded due to the developers basically taking people's money and abandoning developement on their broken and incomplete game. Pre-Purchases now fall under the 14 day period as well and finally allow refunding if you changed your mind about that game you had wanted to buy ahead of time.

Also, word has already appeared of people complaining about the new system, mostly with the exploitability of the less than 2 hour play time. This allows for the purchasing and refunding of some of the smaller games that exist on steam that can actually take less than two hours to fully play. Another issue that could also result is people purchasing games only to write bad reviews on them and refund them, since Steam reviews on games are restricted to people who actually own the game for the exact purpose of keeping these biased and hateful reviews from happening. Valve may just end up changing their policy after what we've seen from the removal of the paid Skyrim mods idea, we'll just have to wait and see if news of this appears in the future. All in all, though, this is a step in the right direction for Valve by showing that they actually care for their customers, hopefully the trend continues and we see more community friendly updates in the future.
