Castaway.tf Team Fortress 2 Servers

Welcome to the steam group for Castaway.tf. We are a small community focused on playing older TF2, in the spirit of old Valve servers.

The goal of Castaway is simple - servers where you can play Team Fortress 2 in it's prime. Random crits, sprays, no class limits, no moderation on player communication; this should be as close as possible to the vision of the game as seen by the original developers. Our servers feature a weapon reversion plugin, which attempts to put weapons back into the state whenever they were most fun.

Castaway also features a map voting system. As we do not have all that many players, and it's not as simple as just joining a different server if you want to play a different map, the map voting is a compromise to allow players to play what they want.

No matter what someone else might tell you, we do not, have not, and will not have an official discord server, reddit, or anything of the sort. Our only official locations are on YouTube and our website, anything else is fan made and is not endorsed by Castaway.

Introducing Castaway Forums

Hello, it has been a while since the last announcement. I have some good news for everyone, I am officially launching the Castaway forums!

The brass tacks of what you need to know is:

This forum is intended to largely supercede steam discussions. You can still use it as you wish but the forums are a lot more feature full. We can type very long messages, embed images and videos, and, unlike Steam, doesn't try to hide your post just because you have a link in it.
To create an account, you sign in with steam. You then set a username and password. The password is necessary if you ever want to change your username. You can then log in using either your password or through steam in the future. Logging in with steam is a prerequisite, as is setting a username and password. Refer to the FAQ on the site for more information.
These forums, while rules are lax, are not intended to be a wild west. If I need to tell you what's not allowed, you probably shouldn't be posting it in the first place.
The software is using phpbb. It's free and open source and has a lot of charm. If you are too young to remember forums like this, you'll get used to it don't you worry.

The forum itself, software wise, was set up in late 2025 but I wanted to have some content there to give people an actual reason to use the forum.

As such, there is a Mapping subforum[forums.castaway.tf] which has a ready to go text and image based mapping tutorial that teaches you all the basic technical skills you need to use Hammer and create TF2 maps. I hope this subforum will inspire a creative drive in our community. I would love to host player made maps on our weekend or even main rotation, and having a place where we can do this that is more permanent and easy to use than a group chat or steam forum makes this all the better.

Navigating the forum itself should be relatively self explanatory, and each subforum is described enough that you should know what goes where. I have pre-created the inevitable Reverts thread and will create other megathreads as the need arises.

I have the ability to create announcements on the forum so in the future I'll be mirroring announcements I make here to the forum as well.

And since they act like they're better than everyone, they spend each second whining about other servers when they're not whining about Casual or Quickplay for the 900th time. It sucks cause in concept, the server itself isn't really bad at all. It's just the awful people it attracts that ruins the entire experience. Casual may have its issues but I'll GLADLY take it anyday over that cesspool. Does it have toxicity? Absolutely but atleast it isn't the entire server participating it with 0 remorse or care. Uncletopia might be too sweaty for some but atleast the people there are actually chill. Servers like the Furry Pound are also pretty relaxed from what I heard but I don't play it myself.

Castaway is filled with actual 4Chan dwelling losers. I tried Castaway like 1-2 times but was always hesitant afterwards cause of its playerbase. Gave it a shot like last week again and it was even worse than last time. They usually just spend time acting as if they're all high and mighty just cause they say, "♥♥♥♥ casual amirite? Bring back quickplay!!" and then follow it up by saying every single slur in the book. Can't call a vote either, because they'll just make fun of you and all of a sudden the entire server is against you for actually being a decent human being. Moderation there is pretty much nonexistent. Zesty's servers isn't as bad as this but this issue is still really bad at times compared to other servers.
