FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) -- The Brown County Coroner released the name of the 9-year-old drowning victim in Franklin township Monday. Adrian Akers fell through the ice on a pond Sunday afternoon. The property owner pulled the boy's twin sister to safety and a third child was not injured. The children were playing on the ice on the pond on Hopewell Rd. after 2 p.m. Landon Williams and his wife saw the children on the ice. Williams went outside to tell the children to get off the ice. One child had a bicycle. I said to them, get off the ice and go back that way because it's less deep that way. And they started back that way and two of them fell through, Williams recalled. Williams, a retired police chief, got a piece of rope and an extension cord. He tossed the cord to the girl who fell through the ice. The third child, a girl, stayed on the ice because it could hold her. I kept hollering at them and told them to be calm and stand still. Don't move, we'll get you out, Williams said. He helped pull the nine-year-old girl from the water We got the extension cord to her and told her to tie it around her and she did and we got her out. The girl's twin brother, Adrian, went under water as rescue crews arrived. He was under water for two hours. Divers from Task Force One pulled his body from the pond. He was pronounced dead at a Southwest Hospital in Georgetown. His sister was taken by ambulance to the same hospital but has since gone home.Landon Williams said he's had to tell children to stay out of his pond in the past. He did not know the children who were playing on the ice. It's believed they lived nearby. I put signs up there time and time again. No trespassing and all of that and they keep tearing the signs down, Williams said. One of the children told rescue workers they'd played on the ice over the last couple of days. Rescue workers say it's never safe to play on ice. You should never go on that ice. Kids do it because they think it's all right to do it and they think it's fun. Firefighters from Bethel-Tate, Washington Township and Pierce Township assisted Franklin Township with the rescue.
