Beware of This Scam Method

Several players (myself included) have recently been contacted by accounts claiming things like:

“You and my friend were scammed by someone pretending to be you.”

“Your profile has been posted in an ‘anti-scam’ group with over 1000 members. You should contact an administrator before everyone mass-reports you.”

The scammer usually sends screenshots or links as “proof.” They then push you to contact a specific administrator or “Steam representative” who claims they can “fix the issue.”


* Once you contact this person, they will try to:

1. Get your trade link.

2. Trick you into accepting fake trades or bots.

3. Take your items under the excuse of “checking your inventory” or “removing restrictions.”

4. The entire setup is fake. The group, the so-called administrator, and all the accounts sending these messages are part of the same scam.



* How to Recognize This Scam

You’re contacted by a stranger claiming you’ve been reported or accused.

They point you to a closed group or unverifiable screenshots.

They push you to contact an “admin” who pretends to represent Steam.

They threaten you with “mass reports” or account bans.



* What You Should Do

Do NOT reply to these messages.

Do NOT add or contact any “administrator” they mention.

Report the message, the profile, and any groups directly through Steam’s reporting system.

Block the sender.

Remember that:
Steam staff will never contact you via chat to ask for items, your trade link, or to “verify your inventory.”

Always report scams through official Steam tools.
