21ste Kings Blue Guards

The Kings Blue Guards were an elite infantry regiment from the army of the United Provinces of the Netherlands. The Blue Guards were the best the United Provinces had to offer. These men were considered to be one of the most skilled fighters in the whole of Europe having excellent accuracy and being able to kill people in melee as if it was nothing. The Blue Guards weren’t just good fighters they also inspired other troops when they came marching into battle with their bright blue uniforms.
The Blue Guards fought in many notable campaigns including the Nine Years’ War (1688-1697) and the War of Spanish Succession.

From 1688 to 1699 the Blue Guards served as William III as his personal guard. After the death of William III in 1702 the Blue Guards went back to the United Provinces and became the backbone of the Dutch army. In the War of Spanish Succession the Dutch army and most importantly the Blue Guards became a very important part of the Grand Alliance.
In the Battle of Ramillies the Guards showed Europe how the Dutch fight by storming and taking two French held villages at the left flank of the Allied army thus saving them from getting flanked. In the battle of Malplaquet The Blue Guards also showed that the Dutch know no fear fighting off 2 other French regiments at the left flank and once again saving the Allied army from getting flanked, sadly a lot of the Blue Guards died that day doing so.
