It's a great game. My favorite as a matter of fact. I just can't get past that you need workarounds to make it not crash every now and then. Very frustrating to have such a great game and not be able to play. I'll stick with the good old emulators thank you very much...

I recommend playing the originals. This game is a hit or miss on constant crashing. FFX can usually be fixed with a 4GB mod but FFX-2 can't be. After 1 hour of play in FFX-2 every action in combat has a chance to crash the game with no fix years later. I can't recommend my favorite final fantasy series because the game is simply unstable. I can add that it effects every PC differently and there are many who have no crashes on either game with no mods.

As a long time fan of the classic FF games having played almost all titles from 1 to 9, I finally got the FFX HD remaster in sale. The game starts up slow but once the story picks up I was hooked. Besides the main storyline, there are lots of sidequests and secret bosses to challenge yourself with.

The voice acting ranges from lame to awesome. My favourite voices are Wakka and Cid! The arranged soundtrack is top notch. They have kept most tracks close to originals but rearranged some, like Besaid, Mt. Gagazet and Battle with Seymour, to a whole new level.

I ran the game on Linux and had maybe 2 or 3 crashes during cut scenes over the course of the playthrough which is not bad. I'm also experiencing some crackling audio artifacts at times which is unfortunate, but didn't bother too much in the long run. The issue could probably be resolved by tweaking the Linux audio settings, but I didn't investigate much into it.
