Despite the game being 17 years old at this point, I still believe this game holds its own, with this game being different enough compared to the 2023 remake i'd recommend playing both.
The atmosphere created within the USG Ishimura feels incredible to go through, something consistent in both versions.
One prime difference that sets the two versions apart is Isaac Clarke, the protagonist of the Dead Space franchise.
- The original has him as a silent protagonist, not speaking at all in the game, besides the occasional grunts from attacking or being attacked by the necromorphs, with the only way to see or read his thought process when looking at the descriptions provided for the current objective.
- In the remake, Isaac has a speaking role, still voiced by Gunner Wright (same voice of Isaac for DS 2 & 3), yet he keeps that same "silent protag" vibe, mostly only speaking when being spoken too, or at a time being silent wouldn't make sense.

After knowing and watching the game series as a whole for probably over a decade at this point it feels good to finally have been able to sit down play the first through its entirety.
