I've had no issues with the grey ballast on multiple maps, so if you like the look of it, I recommend giving it a go

I also use "3rd rail" and "track ballast" mods. They are a staple of every game. I liked and wanted to use the "grey ballast" mod but decided against d/l and using it because I'd heard it might crash the game (I don't know). Personaly, I love the "3rd rail" mod, and especially the "old track" mod I previously mentioned. Thanks for your response.

I use Modelcitizens' Grey ballast track as it's a lot more toned down and better matches the areas I try to recreate. I do have a few others like the 3rd rail track and track ballast mods, but I have had issues with them clashing, so currently don't have them installed.
