One of the best—if not the best—puzzle games out there. It requires you to read carefully, take notes, and fully engage with its story-driven gameplay, even without any action sequences. The pacing is well-balanced, and the "just one more in-game day" loop will keep you hooked for hours.

Absolutely worth every cent—buy it at full price!

Game of the Year 2025 so far.

So far, so good. It runs like a charm. The only downside is that you need a custom fix to uncap the FPS in cutscenes. Highly recommended—a great entry in the series.

I was really surprised to see this game appearing in my game queue. Tried the demo, bought it afterward, and had a blast on the Steam Deck.

The level of detail for the franchise is great. The pixel art for the characters and summons is nailing it way better than other FT games for 6 to 10 times the price out there. Dialogues are decent and the gameplay is fun so far.

While the original release was a straight-up scam in terms of what this game is and what it's not, after 8 long years Hello Games did get the game to what was promised before. Unlike others (CDPR cough), they did it free of charge for everyone and are still adding content to this universe, which is unprecedented in the entire industry. So, they deserve a recommendation, and I'm looking forward to their next big thing.

And yes, the game is great. If you like science fiction, you have something to actually explore here (unlike other failures like Starfield).

Partially Recommended:

This one is difficult. First of all, Homeworld 3 captures the old Homeworld feeling, which is great. But it has so many major and minor problems that I can't recommend it if your expectations are for a new and better HW2. In my personal ranking, HW3 only ranks 4th: HW2 > Deserts of Kharak > HW > HW3.

So what's the problem?

Technical problems: The game is not very well optimized. Even a 13900KF/RTX 4090 breaking down on 4K, no matter which DLSS option you choose, to about 20 fps if too much is on the screen. This is due to the "visual effects" setting, which has a major impact even on medium.

Graphics: On one side, it looks overall really great. Textures, lighting, etc., are very good. Thrusters on ships work and look awesome. But it also has major downsides. Engine trails are way too long and disturbing, as are projectile tracers (amount and bouncing from surfaces). The effect overload makes it next to impossible to keep a good overview during a battle.

The audio is great; the constant chatter between units is really nice, and the atmosphere is outstanding in this aspect. The only complaint is the weapon/effect sound. We all know there is no sound in space, so it would be boring to not hear anything, but the sound is still a bit too clear. A little bit more dull would be nice.

Animations: This is a huge downgrade compared to HW2. Ships, especially small fighters, don't behave like they're in space. Formations don't really work well, and a fleet always gets stuck on map objects or clips inside them. Docking/production looks really bad. You can clearly see the texture wall of the docking station, and ships just pop out/in while docking/launching. This was 100 times better and seamless in HW2.

AI: Also a downgrade from HW2. Ships act very "stupid." Resource collectors only collect what you selected. If they finished salvaging an object, they just stop even though there is more right next to them. Ships in general get stuck on themselves (fleet) or on map objects very easily. Frigates don't act at all if there is nothing in close proximity, even if a huge fight is happening 100m away. If you do an attack move to a specific location, every single ship will stop on its way after encountering (and destroying) the first enemy on sight, which means your support frigates are all alone (they don't stop and assist during a fight).

Complexity: Also a big downgrade compared to HW2. Ships no longer have subsystems to target; it's just one object to destroy, which is very disappointing and a major downgrade in a tactical perspective. Variety of units is also less than HW2, as are ship upgrades. Space maps are gone; every map seems to have these big objects/platforms to feature the new "hide and seek" mechanic, which doesn't really work. Ships get stuck all the time; there's no advantage compared to just attacking them without using cover. They meant well but weren't able to make something good out of the idea. Turrets can no longer be placed in space and need a surface object, so if you want to use them, you need to use the environment.

Controls: Ok. Minelayer Frigs can't be grouped cause only one will deploy mines so you have to select them one by one. New units always have neutral stance no matter what the Mothership/Carrier has.

Campaign: The story isn't the best, but the cutscenes are great, and the Homeworld feeling is definitely there. But it is way too short (one mission out of 13 is only 3 minutes long).

Conclusion: I expected more. Some important parts like AI/animations are so lazily developed that I wished they had done fewer cutscenes to at least be on par with Homeworld 2. In the end, it plays (mostly) and feels like Homeworld, and if you are a huge fan, buy it (wait for a discount), but don't expect too much. After finishing the campaign, I will most likely go back to Homeworld 2 Remastered.

If you announce that the performance is not great and needs improvement upon release, that's understandable. However, when you have the most powerful consumer-grade hardware available on this planet and the game's main menu is capped at 10fps on startup, it seems like a joke, especially if the graphics settings aren't even maxed out, just set to high. Seriously.

It's not perfect, and it's still not on the same level as Diablo 3. However, the main campaign's story is great, the seasons will hopefully advance, and you can completely ignore the shop/premium pass and still look great and have fun with everything.

Ignore the review bombing, get it at a discount, and if it doesn't capture your interest in the first 2 hours, you can easily refund it.

After finishing the season quest i have to say, season 2 plays way better than season 1 and the performance on the steam deck is also great. Good job here.
