The game that laid the foundations of survival horror deserved to be remastered, and they overdelivered with one of the greatest games of all time with Resident Evil. This version is the HD version of the 2002 remaster and the gameplay is phenomenal. You are trapped inside a zombie filled mansion, but combat is difficult because of the claustrophobic setting and a tight inventory system that makes you question if you should really pick every item you find. Amazingly, the remaster goes the extra mile to bring new areas to some levels that improve on the original game.
This gameplay cycle scales really well as the game story develops. It's all about the reason of a zombie outbreak, and how main characters Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine explore the mansion, each with their own story and small gameplay tweaks. The remake tries to maintain some of the campy charm of the game its based on, to my personal delight.
Resident Evil is visually breathtaking, it was for its 2002 release and it is today with this HD remaster, using the old technique of pre-rendering its graphics to use with fixed camera angles. The result is used to enhance the game performance with improvements such as real-time reflections and a remarkable use of light sources.
The soundtrack is very well suited for this horror game, and can even be listened on its own, but some songs in this HD version are sped up. It is still a perfect rendition of the original soundtrack. The sound design is great, since there always are scary background sounds to keep you on your toes. Monsters can be distinguished by their cries and moans, which is really cool.
Once you beat the game, based on your performance you will unlock new gameplay modes with even harder rules, new costumes for the main characters to wear and new weapons, encouraging you to finish the game faster each time. Not much more content is offered, but the game honestly does not need it.
Overall, every element of the game elevates the horror that you will experience the first time, with a gameplay developed to scare your eyes, ears, hands and mind, and will haunt you until you finish it again, and again. The original PlayStation game was really good, but this one? Simply one of the greatests.

La colección de personajes es genial, la velocidad del juego es sensacional y los circuitos están bien realizados con las transformaciones. Aunque el matchmaking pueda resultar tedioso algunas veces, este juego de karts no tiene nada que envidiarle a la competencia.
