I have been addicted to this game ever since the open beta came out.

And now that the full game is released I will give you my review and tell you whether or not i reccomend this game.

No, I don't think you should play this game. I love it to death, but its in the worst state ever, and it will take a ♥♥♥♥ ton of effort from WB and PFG to get this game back to an atleast playable state.

Right now as it currently stands there are three main un-ignorable issues with the game aside from game balance and gameplay.

1. Online only.
2. Free to play, grind to win.
3. you don't own anything you pay for in this game.

In order to play the game (even the single player rifts or the local mode) you *must* connect to the multiversus servers. Not only does this cause issues with in person tournaments or just wanting to play the game with friends at a buddy's house, but this has one bigger overwhelming issue: what happens if the game dies completely. If the game dies completely, thats that, you will not be able to play the game ever again, ever.

Whilst this game is free to play, with each new character that gets released they get stronger and stronger with the last character released at the time of writing (8/25/24) being beetlejuice. Right now BeetleJuice has an infinite combo with one of his signature perks, pretty much allowing him to kill any character off of one successful hit. But the only way to get the character for free is by grinding for fighter currency. I don't know how to accurately explain how difficult it is to grind up fighter currency for newly released characters, but ask anyone who plays this game and they will tell you that it is a very long, unfun, painful experience. And whilst I award WB for atleast making it so that you *can* grind to unlock the characters that release so that anyone can pick the free win character of the week, it might as well be pay to win with how painful it actually is.

There have been two seperate occassions where a character has been straight up removed from the game. Mind you, not disabled for online play, not only available in "offline" modes, not disabled for challenges and ranked, I mean you literally could not play as the characters anywhere at all whatsoever because they were removed from the game entirely. Meaning if your favorite character you've sunken your time and money into gets removed for whatever reason, that means you won't be recieving any form of compensation whatsoever until the character gets added back into the game later, and thats only *if* the character gets added back into the game. Now, whilst the last time this has happened was after the first major patch with Jason and he was readded after a week, whose to say it won't happen again?

This game is very fun, and I hate to say it, but until these three issues are explicitly addressed, this game is not worth your money, let alone your time.

Update: whilst things have been slowly getting better over time, only the "free to play, grind to win" issue has been addressed so far. So has it gotten better? Yes and no, on one hand the battlepass for the game became much less grindy for many reasons. However, events for the became more grindy, whereas events have missions tied to characters or costumes that if you don't have that you must grind for, meaning you have to grind for the oppurtunity to grind certain events, which is worse.

In addition to this: recently I've been inexplicably having issues with matchmaking recently. Either I get a "Matchmaking failed" error whenever i try to find an online match, or when i do get into a match all of my inputs get rolled back constantly. They released a patch and an update that should've fixed this today, and whilst it did improve the issue slightly allowing me a bit more control over my character, it didn't get rid of it outright and I'm still incapable of actually playing the game online right now, after 3 days of not being able to do so.

I hate to say it, but things have gotten worse for multiversus, even though I really wish they hadn't.

they got rid of the bots. For now.

If they keep this up, this is still absolutely a worthwhile play

This is a beautiful, poignant story well told. From the beginning you're exploring the lives of a family. You find out intimate things about them and the way the story unfolds gives an ever growing sense of dread. You're never quite sure what's going on, right up to the end.

You will want to play this with headhpones on, lights turned down and if possible, in a single sitting. Allow yourself to be immersed in the setting and drawn into the story. It's the little details that keep you inside the story; whether it's the empty pizza boxes or the bills piled on the dining room table, you're given every sense that this is a real family.

There aren't any puzzles, true, though there are a couple of points where you have to do things in the right order or visit a specific room to open up other parts of the story. It's not necessarily linear and makes perfect sense within the context of the story.

This is definitely a story much more than a game and that's perfectly fine. There needs to be much more of this kind of thing out there. I'd love to see this kind of thing as DLC or 'easter eggs' in some prime AAA level games in the future. Just let me enjoy the story.
