The game is short and reletively fun but the main reason im not recommending it is the end game grind.

For the first few hours there is a good loop of getting meaningful upgrade you can feel, but then as you start getting into the second half the game you reach a point where all the requirements for upgrades get absurdly high and do basically nothing.

I suspect this is the point where the developer realized their game was going to natrually end but wanted to extend play time to get past 2 hours. So you spend the rest of the game in this loop, of doing round after round to get upgrades just to "finish" the game, always kept right at that edge of hitting critical mass where you break the game.

It doesnt mater how fun it is at first if the second half is just gonna leave a bad after taste.

First off I do not think this is for everyone, this is for people who have a group they play with and have done everything in the base game and need something new.

The new map is meant to challenge you and push you to learn new pathways to get around. Yes if you go straight inwards when the circle closes you are likely to die, but thats not a bad thing, thats the game actually pushing you to learn this new map and not get stuck.

The new bosses are also harder then base game, especially the mid day bosses, but if you consider them meant to be for the people who already have 100 hours it makes sense.

The new characters are fun, the new map is enjoyable to explore and discover new things and for 15$ it is all well worth the price. Dont listen to people are upset this isnt on the scale of elden ring dlc, it is offering what it promised and not a bunch of things that they never said but for some reason people thought it would.

An extremely fun and unique game. Its about puzzle solving above all else, but presented in a way that you have to figure out what the puzzles are for yourself. If anything the main critic id throw at the game is its extremely short, part 1 and 2 is easily completable in afew hours.

Actually to add onto that, for a game with only 5 major secrets to figure out, some of the dialog can be alittle heavy handed in telling you what to look for making it abit to easy at times.

I can not in good conscious recommend the dlc, I got it for free since I bought the game early, but for what it offers 8$ is alot of money. You get one clothing option, and 1 base building location. It does make for a slightly better base feeling very intentional but 8$ is alot for what you can already do, but has a sorta japan theme.

The only reason the game only has 1k reviews right now is because were all still busy playing it. After 60 hours im still going down different routes, I am so far from finished in the game.

I would say this game is peak at what it is trying to be, but it is *only that*, if you are a tactics player who doesn't play a game for story but just wants a turn based tactics game this is not the game for you. This game is like 90% story, 10% tactics combat.

However if you are someone who wants a zero escape or danganronpa experience, that is *exactly* what you will get here and it will do it so so well.

Early Access Review
Ive been meaning to write this review since I played the game but honestly, it just completely and totally lacks depth. Sure you have a bunch of skills but almost all of these skills are what I like to call a closed box skill, they either have zero interaction with the rest of the game and you make something just to sell it to the npc, or they are skills that give you resources to do skills that... you can only sell the item to an npc. also after you have spent 5 hours on a skill you have likely done everything that you are going to do on that skill for the next 500 hours. since each skill quickly hits a soft cap that it then starts to loop through the same content you already did there is nothing new.

Though when i say "content" im using that loosely, basically every skill I tried was either, click resource re-spawn point, or exchange resource for other resource, fundamentally there is no difference between these 2, just different themeing. To top it all off you are expected to pay a monthly subscription for this, sure the first 2 areas are free but after that? nah pay up. If this was a game that was being sold directly it would be 5$ per chapter to own forever, not 5$ per month for the privilege.

Do I think its fixable? yah the game play loop is geniunely pretty fun, but the direction its going right now I find it hard to image he does fix the things that are needed to be fixed, and the whole thing doesnt just fade away in less then a year.

At time of posting this game is 3 dollars, 7$ with dlc (dont listen to the deluxe price its over priced for some reason by 2 dollars, you can get the main game and the pass for 3$ and 4$ respectfully)

This game is super worth that price. No its not the left 4 dead you played in highschool but it is a fun co op game to play with friends and again, its 3$ right now, if you got friend to play it with, pick it up.

Rather neat game, rather short just under an hour for me, though I would have rathered a game that focused more on the puzzle instead of having to balance a jump scare monster. I understand why it is that way however, imagine the game will make for great youtube videos for the crowd that does that.

Its cheap so simple to play

I went back and forth alot on if I should recommend or not, ultimately I decided on no. While the game is very pretty and genuinely made me laugh afew times in the story its ultimately has some major downfalls that makes it impossible for me to recommend it.

So let me start by saying for a jrpg this game is very short, 8 to 10 hours even taking your time then post game content is basically non existent, one single boss that you can beat easily by setting up your team right. The game gives you the ability to explore the entire area but almost no reason to do so, you cant find any dungeons or caves that dont exist for story reasons, exploring ahead is just a waste of time. The characters are barely given any depth, infact you can easily forget they exist if you dont have them in your party.

Ultimately it is a very interesting concept that just wasn't given what it needed to grow, it rarely uses the cards in an intresting way and barely does anything intresting as a jrpg. The coolest thing the game does imo is at the start you run into a merchant who is selling you a legendary weapon, giving a goal very early on that encourages you to be risky to make money that gives you a connection to your main character making it very interesting to get his legendary weapon. Every other legendary weapon in the game however is just laying around on the ground basically. the games "side quest" more often then not are give man medicine congrats you did it, and while that fits the themes its also very basic.

Lastly there is the amount of reused card art, almost every villager shares a card art outside of one per town basically, there is a very limited amount of unique enemy cards and after the half way point your mostly gonna see variants only. it just really feels like they had the artist for a week and really drags you out of the game.

I am just disappointed, i get that this game is half the price of a triple A game but this is so much less then half the scale, it is basically like a triple A game jam and if you compare this game to bravely default a 3ds game worth 40$ more work went into the art of one town then this entire game and that game is 50 hours long with near infinite depth to the the combat

There really is no way to review this game in a way that gives it justice and doesnt spoil it, the only thing I can say is do not expect to pick up this game to get a highly replayable rouge like experience, this is not slay the spire, this is more of an 8 hour story experience that is WELL WORTH they money.
