ᑐ ᑌ ᑎ ᕮ absolutely has room to become my favorite game of all time, and i think it definitely has a few paths it could take to end up being a top 10 MMO of all time, even though Funcom has thoroughly scrubbed the MMO marketing off of this game, Dune is absolutely structured like an MMO; with its social hub safe zones, time hungry grind, open world questing system with a quest marker, banking system, an auction house, and zerg guilds in the endgame. but the game doesn’t necessarily PLAY like an MMO, with live combat, WAY less combat or support skills than your traditional WoW-like, the faction choice is made AFTER character creation, and there is a survival game core to it all as well, such as water management and base building. if mmo’s aren’t your thing, this game still could be if looter shooters or survival games are, and that works with any combination of those three things. as of my current 100 hours, only the first two chapters of the story are out and it’s an absolutely incredible story so far (if you’re into the Dune books), however i personally think it’s a little disappointing that it leaves off on such an insane cliffhanger on launch. but with the story being so good but short right now, the majority of my time i’ve spent on this game has been pure open world questing and survival. the open world is INSANELY immersive and fun to be in and explore, with a very large progression curve that allows for the feeling of growth that i personally chase while playing a survival game or mmo. i think the combat gets a bad wrap for no reason as well, as i think the combat gets really good after a minuscule time spent with the game - but while the combat a big part of the game, i don’t think it’s not the POINT of the game, so i don’t think that me and the people criticizing the combat are looking at the game the same.
but at the end of the day, this game is absolutely fantastic and i cannot wait for it to continue to grow throughout the years of development with updates, and dlc. i think its current state as of June 2025 is a very strong 8/10 with lots more to come. but i think that Dune has absolutely has full potential to be a 10/10 within the next year.

TLDR:
strong 8/10 game with potential to be a 10/10. great open world survival game with good feeling combat and a good story if you’re into the Duniverse.

EDIT AFTER 180 HOURS:
This game disappoints me immeasurably. I had so much fun playing it for so very long, and then I just ran out of things to do. I ran out of quests, things I cared about collecting or seeing, I got all the cosmetics I wanted, theres nothing for me anymore. And as a solo player, there is zero content for me in the deep desert even with the changes. There needs to be a better questing system or it just doesn't work. Im such a big Dune fan, and this game was my rock for about 200 hours and I had a blast, but it just doesn't have enough meaningful story content to keep someone like me. I still want to play this game, and I still want to rate it highly, but I literally just cannot do that in a meaningful way right now.
If you're into stories and good progression, the game is absolutely fantastic for about 100 to 150 hours, but anything besides that is almost wasted time. Pick this game up on sale, or if you're a Dune fan MAYBE spend the $50 maximum. Thats all I can recommend right now
