They say it's hard to make a game that's So Bad It's Good, but this one, in its final act, does exactly that. It goes so far off the rails that it can't even be called a train anymore. It was an absolute shock after how relatively grounded that the first one was, at least by comparison. It went from decent horror and metaphor for race and class struggle, to... Well, that would be spoilers. Play this one with friends or an audience for sure.

I like it but why is it called Broventure when all the characters are well-known lesbian archetypes?

There's not a good excuse for what is, ostensibly, a AAA platformer, to have severe problems with the edges of platforms.

On the bright side, that's the worst thing I can say about it.

This one is for the longtime fans, as it's about 60% fanservice by volume, and not in a gross way. I would love to see a Rivet and Kit spinoff.

I love this game. As a warning, though, the story is incomplete, and it looks like the rest is going to be locked in DLC, and I wish they were more forthcoming about this information.

The game is otherwise excellent, tho, so I can't fault it.

Early Access Review
A blast so far with some flaws.

Gorgeous art, fun characters, and interesting party dynamics. Everything that's here is fun. It's really nice to see some varied representation in the cast.

Things that I want to see improve:

I think runs need to be *much* longer because there's not a lot of time to tune your deck, and there's not a lot of variation in combat and mystling customization.

The menus sometimes bug out a bit if one screen overlaps another.

I would like to see the tamer characters take more of a visible role, like actually appearing in combat, and unique walkabout sprites.

More Mystlings with like branching evolutionary paths?

Again, this is a positive review! This is great so far and I am looking forward to its continued development.

First-person, grid-based, and heavily in the style of Wizardry, with a heavy focus on body horror. Lots of QoL features that should be standard in the subgenre.

I'm only disappointed by one thing: There's no soundtrack DLC. This music slaps.

So like, the gameplay is a blast for me, a lot of exploring and slow, almost plodding, but very fun, combat. The problem, which I don't see being talked about, is that they're using symbols and characters from old Germanic folklore without understanding their origins.
This is steam, so I expect a backlash of 'funny' clicks to increase my engagement metric when I post this, but I gotta tell you something that's not a big secret: There was a LOT of antisemitism in the time and place that these fables are taken from. And I mean a LOT.
I was starting to feel sketchy about it before I reached the first major boss, and I was talking about that to my audience, and then the very next character we see is a short, pudgy fellow with a massive hooked nose, whose main personality trait is that he is a greedy little person. Also he's literally the devil. Like I said, antisemitism. If you know, you know.
There's two schools of thought here: The first is that the devs used imagery from this place and time without having any idea what they represented, which is irresponsible, but unfortunately, common. The other being that the devs are antisemitic, which is terrible, but unfortunately, common.
So no, I can't recommend it. That desperate stank colors everything else in the game.

It's still Overwatch.

Like, for real, it's not a sequel, it's the same game with a couple of content patches.

The monetization isn't completely terrible, but it's not good either.

Community is much better than pre-patch, except when Paladins gets updated and their players swear they're gonna play Overwatch instead, play it for 3 days, then go back to Paladins.

The new dev team is less toxic than the old one and are doing more with the world and story than the old one, but are also completely gutless and don't follow through with their promises.

Cheating is a major problem, there's at least 3 free tools available from the usual suspects at any given time. It sucks a lot, and the big ban waves rarely help for longer than a few days. Nothing is done about hate speech either, or harassment. I don't think they have a moderation team.

If there was a neutral, I'd give that. If there were a score 1-10 I'd give it a 4 in its current state. Know that the blast of negative reviews is 100% deserved, and that this feeling has been festering since long before the steam release. So I tentatively give this game a thumbs up, with all the caveats above, so you know what you're getting into.

This game should be called Serenity: Among the Ashes.
Like, he even says it at the end. I have to assume this was the planned name for some time.
Why call it 'Remnant 2?' You already had a great name.
Cut it out.
Game's real good though. Especially the bosses. Except for some of the ones on Yaesha.
If you loved Remnant: From the Ashes, you'll very likely lik this one too, despite some baffling design decisions like severely limiting your trait points.

Not totally thrilled with it. It has three 'endings,' none of which are proper conclusions, just big fights and nothing afterward, not even a cutscene.

After how wonderful Remnant 1's expansion was, to the point that people don't even think about the ending to the main game, I feel sorely disappointed, and that's frustrating.

Wait to see if the rest of the expansions pull this together and maybe get them all as a bundle.
