Far from strategic, arcady, and cash cow game. Save your time and money.

I have spent 400 EUR on this game. I didn't even like it. Gave 3x negative review on WH3 title. First one was with a couple of hours on it since it completely lacks any strategic aspect compared to other (older) titles (troy and upcoming pharaoh are the same sh...). I paid 25 EUR and spent not even 10 hours on this DLC. Compare it with other games.

This DLC is one of the biggest scams just combining pieces of finished code already (mechanics of other factions) in one faction and a couple of new units/LLs.

Please stop buying the new DLCs (including the newest ones) in order to make CA come back to the ground and focusing on what truly matters which is lack of reason to play IE after turn 30-50 with majority of factions bcs then it's just pure snowball and auto resolving everything. AI in battles giving you easy Ws and many others.

Please make them fix the game first, make it enjoyable and playable, then support them once they decide to not rip you off your money anymore. Just praying that they will release some proper title after pharaoh that will have some morals towards their player base.

Good game that you shouldn't buy - DETAILED for people who are considering it

I wrote my initial negative feedback when I had 100 hours on it. Now that I have nearly 400 and additional 100$ spent on DLCs, I enjoyed some parts, but... I'm also a person who enjoyed other TW titles (1 or 2K+ hours) and played WH3 on the hardest difficulties.

I will split it into why you shouldn't buy it, and what I enjoyed. It certainly has a target audience that will love it.

Why you shouldn't buy it:

-The game is designed as a cash-cow. You won't even get a chance to experience a faction fully unless you own all the DLCs within it, since you will miss out on units and crucial faction mechanics. With free factions you must buy a DLC with one lord in order to fully experience it, or even buy a DLC with a faction and then another one or two just to unlock the additional lords in order to gain access to all the faction units and mechanics. Also the lords that are paid obviously have the most interesting campaigns, the free ones are usually very mediocre.

-The price is ridiculous. WH1, WH2, WH3 are required and prepare another 100$ at least for DLCs. I don't mind spending money that much, but some of you might do, I still think it's a bit over the board. As mentioned above, you are forced to buy them with some (majority) factions, if you want the full experience. 25$ for DLC to unlock 1 faction, then 15$ DLC to unlock 2 lords in order to get a full experience of that faction. You might even end up not enjoying the faction after trying it out for 1-2 hours and say hello to 25$ wasted (will happen quite often), or you buy the lords that you won't play just to unlock the units for the one that you want to play. Now you just realize, that you could have bought a fully fledged new game for that price. Also count with a lot of money wasted on things you won't enjoy - spent a lot of hours of my playtime this way (trying to find something enjoyable where I wasted my money).

-The campaigns are - go capture (X amount) of settlements and make sure you own these cities within them. Game won. Wait. You have end game crisis scenario where a couple of enemy units spawn, that you might as well just auto resolve. You should get to the part where you're able to auto-resolve majority of your fights and just conquer anything you want (steamroll is the professional gaming term) around turn 30-60 even on the hardest difficulties. The campaign just loses meaning around that time. The end game crisis is around 4-6 hours after your campaign victory conditions are met, if you want to spend more time on just auto resolving everything.

-This title is far from strategic and is very arcady. If you're looking for a strategically challenging game (even on hardest difficulties), look for other TW titles ( 2 DLCs = another game or even 2 in the case of older ones which are great). The fights are having way too many mechanics to abuse them. Some lords being able to nearly take out the whole force of their own, mages wiping huge part of their army before they can even reach yours (at that point the battle is won), and the whole way the fights are fought is in the way of put this certain mystical creature vs this instead of trying come up with strategical positioning and maneuvering of how to win the fights. Some people might enjoy it. Some fights can be challenging, just want to highlight the arcady part.

-The AI is dumb. Doesn't matter what the difficulty is. If the enemy has reinforcing army, they will just stand still and let you crush 1/2 of their army before they arrive. You can blob up big chunk of their army and just destroy it with artillery and a couple of spells. Many other things to mention, but I think this should be enough to understand it.

What I enjoyed:

-The campaigns with the story (not the sandbox version).

-Some factions are fun to play (for me it's Tomb Kings - DLC) and some lords have great campaigns (Alarielle, Sniktch - both DLCs) with interesting mechanics.

-It has high replayability, new factions, new lords, you just have to buy them.

-Exploring new faction is amazing, if like it (happened to me with Tomb Kings), but you might as well not like it (Chaos Dwarfs for me - 25$ DLC).

-The fights even if they're not so realistic and kinda arcady, can sometimes be great fun. I just started to like it more and more the longer I played the game.

Summary:

If you like fantasy and strategy, this game is a great combination of it and you will for sure love it. You can easily spend a lot of hours on this game. Be prepared to have a couple of 100s of $ ready to spend on it. If you want a great strategic challenge, maybe to train your thinking, go for other titles. Always keep in mind that before buying this game in order to get the full experience and explore it fully, you can buy multiple other games for the price of this one.
