This game is right up there with RE2R & RE4R. Tons of stuff in it from both and it uses them well. The characters are awesome. The fan service felt well done. The gameplay was exciting. The game ran really well.

I'm totally hooked.
Metal Slug is big nostalgia for me & this game really pays homage to it well.
The variety of characters & playstyles & unlockables is really cool.
Took me a few hours to grasp the basic gameplay loop but now it's a total blast.

This is Early Access, I definitely expected a buggy mess.
First few hours of release were pretty rough. Lots of server issues, teleporting zombies, low FPS, etc.

Optimization definitely needs work. But switching everything to Medium (Textures on Ultra) and turning Bloom off, I'm running pretty damn well now even at 1440p. Obviously that stuff is gonna get ironed out in the future, it always does. But for now these settings work well for me.

14~ hours later, they said they fixed some server issues and that's improved my experience a lot.
No more teleporting zombies, still some hit reg lag, but not nearly as bad.
I've gotten several matches in that were REALLY fun and engaging, even though I'd take damage from unwieldy zombies that I couldn't tell were lag or skill issue.

The biggest thing to me is that, even though I'm experiencing a language barrier with players from Asia or Russia, everyone has been really awesome to play with. People are helpful, they'll give you ammo, they wanna help you out. Community is great so far.

All in all, it could be a lot better, but it's Early Access and I'm still really enjoying myself.

If you don't want to deal with technical problems, give it a pass until it gets some updates. Or just don't buy Early Access games, I guess.

EDIT 2: The game is very good, but all the garbage that took place still sucks. I wish I could leave a Mixed review.

EDIT: Sony has announced they are walking back mandatory account linking, which is a huge W. Review will be changed to positive when 177 countries get their game back.

I adore this game, but the required PSN account issues cannot be ignored.
This decision has gated people out of playing completely in countries that do not have PSN.

Since it was totally playable before the mandatory linking system, it should be very easy to walk this back and let people continue playing the way they were.

Please do not kill this game, it's incredible. Use your brains.

Fantastic game with performance issues at launch. If you like Fallen Order, you'll really like this one.
If you can handle 30+ FPS, you'll have a great time. If not, wait for patches before buying it.
Will update this review when performance is fixed.

EDIT May 2nd: Performance patch has improved frame-rate significantly at high settings. First area, which originally ran at 35-ish, is now at 60ish. Main town is still around 45 - 50~
