This expansion added a much more conventional survival type mode. The new map and mode have been fun to play, and it was worth the purchase.

The game is pretty good. Crystals can require a lot of exploring, but I'm sure those will get adjusted to make their acquisition more clear. Not many bugs other than getting stuck inside asteroids/caves. The unstuck function works, but it just put me back in my base. Great if you want to travel back quickly, not so great if you spent a long time traveling to get a resource, and you get stuck before you can harvest it out. Lots of potential.

10/16/23 EDIT

This game keeps stacking improvement upon improvement. The dedicated servers are huge for multiplayer and minimizing lag. The game mechanics are fun, survival mechanics are immersive but not annoying, and overall the game is sold. Performance is much better than it was.

-- Original Review --

Icarus is a unique and fun survival game that suffers from some performance issues. If you have a lower end PC, then you'll probably have a rough time. Even some high-end PCs may struggle in a multiplayer session with graphics turned up. Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date too.

I run a 3080 and a 5600x @1440p, and solo the frames are fine (100+). When I am hosting a session with 5 other people, then they drop to 30ish avg with lows in the 15 range (when I started multiple forest fires).

If you don't mind the performance issues, the game can be a lot of fun. I will continue to play it, but I am looking forward to patches with performance improvements.

It's so good that the small flaws are easily overlooked.

Fun game. It's a PvP game for sure, but no offline raiding and fairly easy to rebound from losses.

Great immersion, and an excellent installment in the Half Life story.

Won't run properly unless your PC is a potato.

One would think that this game was made for VR. Play this game for a minute, and you'll realize VR was made for this game.

If you have a small VR area, this is a very fun way to destroy everything within reach. Wall punching simulator 2018

This game has massive potential, and a steady development cycle. It has a great building system, and it's a blast to make new ship and vessel designs. It has content, but it's non-linear and you have to explore to find it. It's still squarely in the development stage, so if you don't like unfinished, work-in-progress games, then maybe wait for the release. If you're good with the quirks of development, then you can have a great time with what's already in place.

Big shout out to the "Preferred" servers and the API that is built into this game. Server hosts are able to do some crazy integration with their websites to add a lot of interesting stuff to the game. Check out the Homeworld Servers (HWS) if you want to see a great implementation of the API.
