8790 hours is the true number. When you install a SRCDS (Source Dedicated Server) for L4D2 on your PC and run it 24/7, Steam sees the left4dead2.exe running and logs hours to your total. By clicking on Achievement Progress for a specific game on a players profile, if game info is shared, you can see actual hours played.
