Do you think you could do better?

As a lifelong Star Trek fan, Janeway has always been my captain. She was strong, held the crew together, and made the hardest choices in the franchise....even if I didn’t always agree with them. Across the Unknown finally puts you in her chair and asks: Could you do it better?

Gameplay & Combat
I was worried about the combat because I’m not great at flight sims. However, since you're the Captain, you aren't the pilot or the gunner. You give orders to the bridge crew and they execute them. It feels authentic and keeps the focus on strategy.

The game is divided into sectors (chapters) filled with main missions and side quests based on classic episodes.
Tip: Once you finish a story mission, make sure to check other star systems in your sector for side missions—there's a lot of great content you don't want to miss!

The "Delta Quadrant" Experience
  • Management: The resource management and ship maintenance can be confusing. I’m several hours in and still figuring it out. Visually, the ship maintenance reminds me of Fallout Shelter, which isn't really my cup of tea.
  • Graphics: They aren't the greatest. Your mind won't be blown, but it doesn't look bad. It's just... fine.
  • Audio: Tim Russ (Tuvok) is amazing as always. Robert Duncan McNeill (Paris) feels a bit hit-or-miss; sometimes he's great, other times it sounds like he’s phoning it in.

Verdict
The replayability is through the roof. You’ll want to try all the different choice results, so don't be surprised if you find yourself starting a new game right after finishing.

Price: Around $35.00
Final Thought: At this price, you would be a fool to pass it up. The exploration and RPG elements have kept me totally enthralled.

Final Score: Recommended

I love the Dragon Quest series, and I played the originals back on the NES, so I was really looking forward to this remake.

So far I’ve only spent time with Dragon Quest I, so that’s what this review is focused on—and I’m having a great time.

The updated 2.5D visuals are absolutely fantastic. They modernize the game without losing the charm or identity of the original, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

The game also stays true to its roots in that the main character doesn’t speak, yet still manages to have plenty of personality thanks to expressive animations and character reactions. It’s a nice balance of classic design with modern presentation.

Voice acting is about what you’d expect from a JRPG—solid and competently done. Nothing groundbreaking, but no complaints either.

The quality-of-life improvements are where this really shines. One standout feature is the ability to record conversations. If an NPC says something important, you can save it to memory and recall it later—even while you’re out in the field. It’s infinitely better than the old-school method of keeping a physical notebook nearby to jot things down.

I also really appreciate the included difficulty settings. Being able to lower the difficulty to reduce or completely eliminate grinding makes the experience much more accessible and enjoyable, especially if you just want to relax and focus on the adventure.

If you’re a longtime Dragon Quest fan—or even someone curious about where the series began—this remake feels like a fantastic way to experience it.

yea, I'm actually on the fence about buying it. The lack of player lobby combined with the inability to edit keybindings is kind of putting me off a little...most likely I'll still pick it up before the sale ends. Just sitting on the fence(also waiting to see if there are any bugs or things that pop up, but so far the game seems playable other than those two aspects)

Cheers, guv'na! I decided to do the right thing and write a review, with the cold hard facts. Letting people know what they're buying and how the game is at the very moment is something reviews are supposed to there for. You seem like a very cool fellow and actually saw the problem there as well. Hopefully we can play some games together some time. Take care and have a good one! :happycrank::ss13ok:
